Local families are invited to celebrate a white Christmas, featuring lots of real snow, at the first annual “Miracle on Myrtle” this Sunday, Dec. 23, at Monrovia’s Library Park. The event, which is being presented by Fellowship Monrovia, begins at 5 p.m. (Seating opens at 4 p.m.)
Part of Library Park will be turned into a virtual Winter Wonderland, with a 40-by-40-foot area covered with six inches of snow for children (and their parents) to play in.
There will also be free hot chocolate, free Christmas gift bags, and 350 dozen pastries and cookies for everyone in attendance in a show of the Christmas spirit.
There will be holiday music from local choirs and bands, and a special 10-minute Christmas short film for children which was produced by Bixote Hunte, who has provided material for the Walt Disney Co. for three decades.
“This is an amazing community,” said Monrovia resident Albert Tate of Fellowship Monrovia. “This night will be a reflection of our great city. This is the most wonderful time of the year, and this will be a perfect evening for families to experience the magic of the holiday season.
“As a church located in the heart of Monrovia, we want everyone to enjoy a safe, family-friendly event where we revisit some great old Christmas carols and celebrate the holidays together with our families and as a community.”
“We want this to become another tradition in Monrovia,” said event committee member Maureen Hofman. “We want to bring together people of all ages, multicultural and multi-generational, and make ‘Miracle on Myrtle’ a tradition like the Monrovia Christmas Parade.”
Hofman said that attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. Arrival begins at 4 p.m. for the best seating.
