Police Blotters 11/22/12

Arcadia PD

Sunday, November 11:

At approximately 7:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Nordstrom’s parking lot at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in reference to a vandalism involving a vehicle. Both the driver and passenger side mirrors were broken off, and left on the ground next to the vehicle. The vehicle’s owner indicated that he believed the vandalism was the result of a parking dispute he had with another driver earlier that day. Though the owner did not actually see the vandalism occur, he can identify the person whom he had the dispute with if seen again.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration on Live Oak Avenue near Santa Anita Avenue. A subsequent investigation and consensual search of the vehicle revealed the driver had a suspended license, two outstanding warrants for his arrest, and was in possession of a stolen license plate. The 48-year-old, Hispanic male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Monday, November 12:

At approximately 11:59 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of S. Fourth Avenue regarding to a residential burglary. Investigation revealed the suspect(s) entered an open garage while the resident was home, and stole a set of golf clubs. There were no surveillance cameras, and no suspects were seen or heard during the incident.

At about 9:48 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on Baldwin Avenue near Huntington Drive. Upon contact with the driver, the officer discovered the driver had a suspended license. A consensual search of the vehicle revealed the driver was in possession of brass knuckles. The 26-year-old, White female was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Tuesday, November 13:

At about 7:18 a.m., officers responded to the 11000 block of Clark Street regarding a suspicious male vandalizing a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers contacted the suspect standing next to a white Ford, carrying a metal bar. Investigation revealed the vehicle belonged to the suspect. Though initially calm and compliant, the suspect increasingly became frantic and delirious showing significant signs of drug use. The suspect attempted to run away, and resisted the officers’ attempts to detain him. As a result, the 50-year-old, Hispanic male was taken to the Arcadia City Jail where he was booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance and resisting officers.

Around 4:41 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of S. Baldwin Avenue in regard to a residential burglary. Officers discovered the suspect(s) removed a back window screen, and entered through the unlocked window. Further investigation revealed the bedroom was ransacked, and several pieces of jewelry were stolen. There were no witnesses or surveillance cameras.

Wednesday, November 14:

At approximately 8:44 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 000 block of Vaquero Road in reference to a theft that occurred earlier in the evening at 24 Hour Fitness, 125 N. First Avenue. The male victim reported his car keys had been stolen from an unsecured locker while he was using the gym facilities. The victim discovered his cell phone, cash, driver’s license and several credit cards stolen out of his vehicle. Further investigation revealed the unknown suspect(s) used one of the stolen credit cards at a Chevron gas station in Woodland Hills.

Around 9:56 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of San Simeon Road with regard to a residential burglary. The female victim entered her home, heard a loud sound coming from inside, and discovered her home had been ransacked. An investigation revealed the suspect(s) removed a bathroom window screen, and pried open the window. The victim did not see anyone in her home, and there were no surveillance cameras.

Thursday, November 15:

9. At about 1:37 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for swerving between the lanes on Santa Anita Avenue near Camino Real Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected an odor of alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. An investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The 21-year-old, Chinese male was subsequently arrested for drunk driving, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for processing.

At about 3:23 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Campus Drive for a missing front license plate. A subsequent investigation revealed a passenger in the vehicle had an outstanding felony warrant for their arrest. The 22-year-old, White male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Friday, November 16:

At approximately 6:05 p.m., an officer responded to the Santa Anita Mall, 400 S. Baldwin Avenue, regarding two male suspects in custody for theft. The suspects concealed clothing from Pac Sun inside their bags, exited the store without paying for the items, and ran off when the security alarm sounded. Security officers stopped the suspects and detained them until Arcadia Police arrived. Further investigation revealed the suspects had stolen clothing from several other stores in the mall. The 16 and 17-year old Asian males were arrested, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. Both were subsequently released to their parents.

Around 4:48 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of W. Duarte Road regarding a stolen vehicle. Investigation revealed a 2006 silver, Ford Taurus was stolen from the location between 2:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. The female victim remembers locking her vehicle, but believes she may have left her keys inside. There were no witnesses and the stolen vehicle was not discovered in the surrounding area.

Saturday, November 17:

At about 4:20 a.m., officers responded to the area of Foothill Boulevard and Baldwin Avenue regarding a solo vehicle crash in which the male driver fled the scene. During their investigation, officers contacted the driver at his home in Monrovia, and discovered he was under the influence of alcohol. The 23-year-old male was subsequently arrested for drunk driving, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for processing.

Around 5:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to Boutique No. 5, 733 W. Naomi Avenue, regarding a robbery. Investigation revealed a male suspect entered the store pretending to be a customer, concealed a purse, and exited the store without paying. A female employee followed the suspect outside, and while attempting to retrieve the stolen merchandise, was elbowed in the head by the suspect who fled the scene in a blue pickup truck. The suspect was described as a White male, 6 ft. tall, mid 20s, and can be identified by the victim if seen again.

Monrovia PD

Battery on a Peace Officer / Parole Violation – Suspect Arrested
November 8 at 6:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of East Olive regarding a subject trespassing. An officer located and detained a person matching the suspect’s description at the corner of Olive and Myrtle. The officer confirmed it was, in fact, the suspect, and also learned that the suspect was on active parole. An assisting officer arrived and during a search of the suspect, a bag of illegal narcotics was found in his possession. The suspect became uncooperative and made attempts to break free from the officers. A brief struggle ensued, but the suspect was eventually taken into custody. As a result of the struggle, one of the officers sustained minor injuries. The suspect was charged with battery on a peace officer and violation of parole.

Residential Burglary
November 8 at 3:43 p.m., a residential burglary was reported in the 900 block of East Greystone. The burglary occurred sometime between 7:00 a.m. and 3:40 p.m. The point of entry appears to be an unlocked bathroom window. The items taken were a Kindle, laptop computers, and a television. The investigation is continuing.

Man Attempts to Lure Teen into Car
November 8, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a 14-year-old middle school student was walking home alone after attending an after school sporting event. As the student approached the area of Canyon and Colorado, a male suspect approached her and made inquiries about schools, as if he were unfamiliar with the area. When the student answered the suspect’s questions, he told her he needed to go to the high school and was in a hurry. The suspect asked the student to get in his car and direct him to the high school. When the student refused, the suspect offered her $200 to get in his car and direct him to the high school, but she refused again and continued to walk away. The student glanced back and observed the suspect enter his vehicle and drive away.

The suspect is described as a male, Hispanic, 20-25 years old, 5-09 to 5-10, 180 to 190 pounds, black shaggy hair – medium length, brown eyes, clean shaven, with silver metal-framed prescription glasses. The suspect was wearing a black t-shirt and khaki pants with a brown camouflage pattern stripe on the legs. The suspect vehicle is described as a silver, late 90’s model, Honda Civic, 4-door, with a bicycle rack attached to the back of the trunk. Click on Press Release to see a sketch of the suspect.

Commercial Burglary – Two Suspects Arrested
November 9 at 6:24 p.m., officers responded to a business in the 700 block of East Huntington regarding a burglary. A male and female entered a grocery store and concealed packages of meat on their person; the female suspect concealed meat in her purse. Both suspects attempted to exit without paying. Loss prevention attempted to stop them. The female stopped long enough for the loss prevention agent to grab her purse, and then both the male and female fled to a waiting car, which was driven away by another male suspect. Officers located the vehicle with the suspects. One suspect fled, while the other two were detained by officers. Despite an area search, the male suspect that ran was not located. The other two suspects were arrested and taken into custody.

The female admitted they had planned the theft and to several prior thefts from the same store. The three subjects are suspected of several thefts of meat and alcohol in recent weeks from the location. Both have extensive prior criminal history.

Vandalism
November 10 at 6:59 p.m., vandalism was reported in the area of California and Cypress. Green spray paint was used to write graffiti on a residential wall. Three male Black subjects were observed tagging the wall with a spray can; however, they were not located. The investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft Auto
November 11 at 3:00 a.m., a blue, 1989 Toyota Camry was stolen by unknown suspects. The reporting party saw the vehicle being driven away toward the City of Arcadia. Officers made an area search, but were unable to locate the vehicle. Investigation continuing.

Residential Burglary
November 11 at 7:29 p.m., a burglary was reported in the 200 block of North Encinitas. The victim left his home on November 9 at 9:00 p.m. in the evening and returned at 7:15 p.m. on November 11 to discover his backdoor had been broken into and items had been taken. Four firearms, one laptop, and a tablet were taken. The investigation is continuing.

Battery Report
November 11 at 9:14 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a hospital regarding a female victim who was battered by her adult son. The victim stated she was punched by her son, who had recently been kicked out of a sober living home. The son also pushed the victim’s boyfriend during the attack. The victim sustained a fractured nose. A wanted person entry for felony battery was made into the system for the suspect. Investigation continuing.

Attempt Burglary
November 13 at 11:09 a.m., an attempt burglary was reported in the 600 block of Laurel Lane. Neighbors witnessed a suspect coming out of a residence on Laurel Lane. It initially appeared that the suspect was carrying a laptop. The suspect was chased away and the neighbors called police. Containment was set up and the area was searched on foot and by air, with no results. The investigation continues. The home owner responded and determined there was no loss.

Vehicle Burglary
November 13 at 6:35 p.m., police responded to the report of a vehicle burglary that occurred in a business parking lot in the 700 block of East Huntington. The passenger side window was smashed and a purse that was left in the vehicle was stolen. The investigation is continuing.

Sierra Madre PD

Saturday November 10, 2012
At 7pm, a resident of the 600 block of west Orange Grove Avenue was inside her home when she observed a person looking into her kitchen window. The individual quickly moved away from the window and was gone before police units arrived. The resident could not provide a description as she saw only portions of the suspect’s torso. An examination of the area failed to locate any evidence.

Monday November 12, 2012
In the early afternoon, an unknown suspect broke the side window of a vehicle parked in the Bailey Canyon Parking Lot. The suspect removed a purse that had been placed under the front seat and fled without being seen. While investigating this crime, the officers discovered that a second vehicle in the lot had been broken into in the same fashion. A purse was taken from the second vehicle. This is the third vehicle burglary in the Baily Canyon Parking Lot this month. In each of the crimes the suspect smashed a side window and took property that was easily reachable.

Wednesday November 14, 2012
At 5:30pm, officers were dispatched to Santa Anita Canyon Road at the Lannan Debris Basin to investigate a report of a fire. On arrival they detained a male transient who had ignited a large trash fire to keep himself warm. The fire was quickly extinguished and the transient was arrested for starting an unlawful outside fire.
