On Tuesday, November 6, the Arcadia City Council unanimously approved a special use permit for Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts (PSHA) to hold its annual benefit, the Pasadena Showcase House of Design, in their city. Not one negative comment was made from residents during the entire meeting and after reviewing the extensive application, the meeting ended with the statement “Welcome to Arcadia” from the City Council.
The Pasadena Showcase House of Design is one of the country’s oldest, largest, and most successful home and garden tours. Each year, an estate of architectural significance is renovated by Southern California’s prominent interior and exterior designers using the latest design products and concepts. It will be open for public tours from April 21 through May 19, 2013.
Katherine Watkins, PSHA’s 2013 Benefit Chair, said that she was extraordinarily grateful to the residents and the City Council for welcoming Showcase back to Arcadia. “We have met the most gracious and generous people during our outreach to the neighbors. We are very fortunate to have their support and are deeply appreciative.”
Two days later, Katherine and the PSHA Benefit Committee hosted nearly two hundred interior and exterior design firms at the “Designer Walk Thru”. After touring the gardens and the Monterey Colonial residence built in 1941 by renowned architect Roland E. Coate, the designers submitted their ideas for the spaces in which they are interested. The Selection Committee is already hard at work reviewing all of the applications and will be announcing their selections within a few days.
One exterior designer was heard to comment on the home’s lovely grounds, “The exterior spaces are very charming and romantic. It is not often that you find native trees as large as these; but, also in such good condition. This will truly be a ‘Showcase’ property.”
Kathryn Hofgaarden, PSHA President, was quick to remind everyone, “As exciting as this project is, it is important to remember that this is a fundraiser. Proceeds from the Pasadena Showcase House of Design support outstanding music and art programs that bring joy to the lives of children.”
Golden Tickets for the 2013 Pasadena Showcase House of Design go on sale November 19.
General Tickets go on sale February 4, 2013 and both can be purchased online at pasadenashowcase.org.
