Police Blotters 11/1/12

Arcadia PD
Sunday, October 21:
At about 1:10 a.m., officers responded to The Patio, 21 East Huntington Drive, regarding an argument involving three subjects. During the investigation, one of the subjects refused to take his hands out of his pockets, and place them on top of his head, as ordered by officers. Though initially non-compliant, the subject ultimately complied with the officers’ orders, and was arrested for both delaying an officer in the course of his duties and public intoxication. The other two subjects involved in the argument were also arrested for public intoxication.
At approximately 1:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of S. Eighth Avenue in reference to a road rage incident that resulted in vandalism. The victim reported that a White male adult, with gray-colored eyes, stopped her on the road because he believed she had cut him off. As a result, he kicked her front bumper, broke her driver’s side mirror, and kicked her door. The victim wrote down the suspect’s license plate number as he left the area, but no matches were found on the plate number in the DMV database.
Monday, October 22:
Around 7:23 p.m., officers responded to the 000 block of Alta Street regarding a theft involving a wife and her estranged husband. The wife reported that she believed her estranged husband had stolen an identification card and gift card from her purse during a visit a few days earlier.
At about 9:45 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop for expired registration in the area of Oakhurst Lane and Colorado Street. The driver of the white Buick provided the officer an expired license. The 60-year-old White female was subsequently cited and released in the field. Her vehicle was left legally parked at the scene.
Tuesday, October 23:
Around 1:21 a.m., officers responded to Motel 6, 225 Colorado Place, regarding a battery. Investigation revealed an argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend turned into a physical altercation wherein the boyfriend was the aggressor. The boyfriend grabbed the girlfriend by the hair, caused her to fall to the ground, and forced her to surrender her car keys and cell phone before driving away in her car. The car was recovered in Fontana later that day, and was released back to the girlfriend. The suspect remains outstanding.
At about 1:43 p.m., an officer responded to the 2300 block of Lee Avenue in regards to a burglary occurring while residents were home. The suspect attempted to enter the residence through an opened, rear window, and was confronted by a female resident. The male suspect then fled the location without actually entering the residence. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 25–35 years old, with black, spiky hair.
Prior to the burglary, one of the residents heard the doorbell ring. By the time they answered the door, nobody was there. The burglary occurred moments later. This practice by suspects seems to be a consistent pattern in recent burglaries throughout the city.
Wednesday, October 24:
Around 12:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Lemon Avenue and Grace Avenue to assist with the disposal of a grenade. Upon arrival, officers briefly examined the grenade, and believed it was inert. However, as a precautionary measure, the Los Angeles County Bomb Squad was dispatched for assistance. Their investigation confirmed the grenade was inert, and all residents asked to evacuate their residences during the incident returned to their homes a short time later.
At about 9:45 p.m., an officer responded to Macy’s at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding an adult subject in custody for theft. The 34-year-old Chinese female concealed items inside her purse, and exited the store without paying for them. Police took custody of the suspect, and transported her to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Thursday, October 25:
Shortly after 3:50 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the President’s Square parking lot, 1300 South Golden West Avenue, regarding a vandalism, and theft by trick or device. The victim returned to his vehicle after shopping to find that someone had dented and scratched it. The victim was simultaneously approached by an unknown male who offered to fix the damage onsite. When the victim photographed the suspicious male’s license plate, the unknown male immediately drove away.
At approximately 6:21 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the Arcadia Public Library, 20 West Duarte Road, in reference to a theft. The victim was inside the Library for the better part of two hours before discovering that her car keys and wallet were missing from her backpack. The victim was not sure if the property had been stolen from her backpack, or if she had left the property in the library bathroom earlier in the day. In either case, someone took her property without her permission.
Friday, October 26:
At about 2:17 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for traveling on the wrong side of Santa Anita Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the officer smelled an odor of alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. A subsequent investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and the 28-year-old Hispanic female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Around 9:30 a.m., officers responded to Healthcare Partners Medical Group, 440 East Huntington Drive, regarding a commercial burglary. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) committed the burglary during the late night hours of October 25th to the early morning hours of October 26th, and stole three laptop computers. No signs of forced entry were detected by officers, nor were there any other indications of how the suspects gained entry into the building.
Saturday, October 27:
At about 1:47 a.m., an officer contacted a subject staggering in the area of Clark Street and Cogswell Road. Upon contact with the 23-year-old Hispanic male, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath, and noticed other objective symptoms of intoxication as well. The officer determined the subject was unable to care for his safety, and arrested him for public intoxication.
Shortly after 1:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Macy’s parking lot at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in reference to a vandalism involving a vehicle. The vehicle’s owner indicated that she believed the vandalism was the result of a parking dispute she had with another driver earlier that day. Though the owner did not actually see the vandalism occur, she can identify the person whom she had the dispute with if seen again.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
October 21 at 1:45 a.m., Special Enforcement Team officers were traveling west on Foothill, near California, when they saw a vehicle traveling head on with them in the wrong lane. They conducted a traffic stop, and the driver was determined to be driving under the influence. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was stored.
Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
October 21 at 2:40 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 2300 block of Primrose. After investigation, the driver was found to be driving under the influence. He was arrested and the vehicle was stored.
Fire Assist
October 23 at 12:47 p.m., a fire began in a wall between classrooms at a preschool in the 1000 block of South Canyon. The school was evacuated smoothly, police department staff was on scene to monitor the children and facilitate their release to parents/guardians. No injuries or problems were reported.
Residential Burglary
October 23 at 8:23 p.m., a burglary was reported at a residence in the 200 block of West Central. The crime occurred on Saturday, October 20, sometime between 5:30 and 11:30 p.m. The victim didn’t notice the loss until October 23. The suspect forced open the front door to gain entry. Cash, cologne, and the pink slips to two vehicles were stolen.
Receiving Stolen Property / Parole Hold – Suspect Arrested
On October 25 at 11:35 p.m., officers stopped a bicyclist for not having a headlight in the 900 block of Encino. The bicyclist is currently on parole, and he told officers that he borrowed the bicycle from his brother, who had stolen it. He was arrested, and during the booking process, it was discovered that he is a parolee at large. He was charged with receiving stolen property and a parole hold was obtained.
Burglary / Sexual Battery With Intent to Commit Rape – Suspect Arrested
On October 26 at 3:38 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of West Colorado regarding a female yelling for help. A male suspect approached the female victim’s front door and shook the handle and then knocked. The victim looked out her window and recognized the suspect as someone who used to work with her. The victim cracked the door open and the suspect asked for the victim by name. The victim asked him what he wanted, and he replied that he was going to rape her, and he forced the door open.
As the suspect forced the door open, the victim grabbed the door frame and yelled for help. She was overpowered by the suspect and he pushed her to the floor. The suspect climbed on top of the victim, stared at her face, and, again, told her he was going to rape her. The victim continued to scream for help. Three male subjects heard the victim’s screams, grabbed the suspect, and pulled him out to the sidewalk, where they held him until officers arrived.
When officers arrived, the suspect was still struggling to get away. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody without further incident. The victim suffered no injuries, but was shaken up from the incident.

Sierra Madre PD
Tuesday October 23
At 8:15am, a vehicle travelling south on Baldwin Avenue, stopped for the stop sign at Orange Grove Avenue, but then proceeded into the intersection before it was clear. A minor traffic collision occurred with no injuries reported.
At 2:15pm, a resident received a call from a Bank of America branch in Arcadia, informing her that an individual was fraudulently attempting to cash a check against her grandfather’s account. Further investigation revealed that there additional fraud on this account took place the preceding day. As the victim was still in possession of the check numbers being passed, it is apparent that the suspect(s) had obtained the account information of the victim and created fraudulent documents using his account information.
Thursday October 25
Overnight, an unknown suspect entered an unlocked vehicle that was parked in a carport in the 500 block of West Sierra Madre Boulevard. The suspect removed fishing gear and a wallet from the passenger compartment and fled without being seen. Officers obtained print lifts from the vehicle and an investigation is in progress.
Sunday October 28
An officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for the posted stop sign at Orange Grove Avenue and Baldwin Avenue and initiated a traffic stop. The officer’s investigation revealed that the driver had been drinking and further tests were conducted. The driver (male 57 years of age) was subsequently arrested for DUI.
