Police Blotters 10/29/12
Arcadia PD
Sunday, October 14:
At about 5:14 a.m., officers responded to Matt Denny’s, 143 East Huntington Drive, regarding a sounding alarm. Officers discovered unknown suspect(s) forced entry through a rear door, ransacked the location, and fled undetected with several bottles of liquor. No one saw or heard anything suspicious.
At approximately 11:41 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of West Longden Avenue in reference to a possible mail theft. Two witnesses reported seeing a male subject loitering in front of their residence and watched him steal a package from a neighbor’s mailbox. Officers located the suspect one block away. An investigation revealed the suspect removed the contents – an iPhone 5 cellphone case, and discarded the packaging material in the street. The 31-year-old Black male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Monday, October 15:
Around 2:25 p.m., an unknown suspect evaded a traffic stop for no front license plate in the area of Fifth Avenue and Santa Clara Street. The driver failed to yield numerous times and proceeded at a high rate of speed along East Huntington Drive. Due to heavy traffic in the surrounding business district and unsafe conditions, the officer discontinued the pursuit. Further investigation revealed the vehicle’s rear license plate was stolen. The suspect can be identified if seen again. Shortly after 10:20 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a blue Honda Civic for tinted windows on Huntington Drive at Morian Place. A search of the driver revealed she was in possession of drug paraphernalia. The 53-year-old White female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Tuesday, October 16:
At approximately 7:00 a.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle for speeding on Duarte Road, near Lyndon Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the officer smelled an odor of alcohol emitting from his breathe. The officer discovered the driver was under the influence with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.08 percent. The 48-year-old White male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. At about 8:32 a.m., an officer responded to the 300 block of East Camino Real Avenue in regards to a battery investigation. An argument between two cohabitants escalated into a physical altercation. An investigation revealed the battery was mutual.
Wednesday, October 17:
Around 12:52 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a defective windshield in the area of Duarte Road and El Monte Avenue. The driver revealed his license was expired. The 23-year-old Black male was cited, released in the field, and his vehicle was legally parked at the scene.

Felony Hit & Run Traffic Accident
October 16 at 6:36 p.m., police responded to a traffic accident reported in the 1100 block of South Mountain. An 18-year-old male subject was jay-walking westbound across the street in the 1100 block of South Mountain. A dark blue, 2-door, compact car was traveling southbound and struck the pedestrian. The vehicle did not stop and was last seen westbound on Huntington. The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was treated for a broken leg. The investigation is continuing.
Fire Assist / Mental Evaluation
October 17 at 10:46 p.m., the Monrovia Fire Department responded to a location in the 100 block of South Violet regarding a fire. They were told a fire had erupted in one of the apartments two hours earlier. When fire personnel tried to investigate, the male resident was uncooperative and said there was no fire. Fire personnel looked in through a window and saw fire damage. Police were requested and officers responded to contact the resident. Initially, he denied there was a fire, but officers confirmed there was a large kitchen fire, which damaged the entire kitchen and ceiling area. The resident was found to be mentally unstable and was taken to a hospital and placed on a 72-hour hold for mental evaluation.
Hit & Run Traffic Collision – Vehicle vs. Bicyclist
October 19 at 7:46 a.m., officers responded to the 800 block of East Huntington regarding a hit and run traffic accident. A bicyclist was in the number two lane and stopped for the red light at Mountain. A white compact vehicle approached in the same lane to the left of a bicyclist and began to make a turn onto Mountain. During the turning movement, the vehicle struck the bicyclist, causing him to fall to the ground. The driver of the vehicle exited to check on the bicyclist and tried to render assistance, but the bicyclist indicated that his leg might be broken and not to move him. The driver returned to his vehicle and fled the scene south on Mountain. The bicyclist was treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital by ambulance for pain to his left leg. The hit and run driver is described as a dark-complected, African-American male, wearing a black security uniform.
Traffic Collision – Vehicle vs. Pedestrian
October 19 at 1:07 p.m., an accident was reported in the 600 block of South Myrtle involving a subject in a wheelchair. The subject in the wheelchair was crossing Myrtle in the crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle going southbound on Myrtle. The vehicle tapped the wheelchair, causing it to spin. The subject sustained a small abrasion to the lower left leg and was treated by paramedics at the scene and released. The driver of the vehicle was cited and released.

Monday, October 15
At 1:26 am, a passerby reported seeing a utility truck parked in the 500 block of Manzanita Avenue leaking fuel. Police and Fire personnel responded and found that the unattended truck had leaked several gallons of fuel in the roadway causing a public hazard. Fire personnel used an absorbent material on the spilled fuel to assist with the cleanup. The truck was subsequently towed away due to the hazard it posed to the public.
Thursday, October 18
At 3:51 pm, a resident reported that the “Marlborough Terrace” sign is missing and is believed to have been stolen. The sign was attached to the rock wall on the northeast corner of Churchill Road and Mountain Trail Avenue. The sign appears to have been missing for approximately three weeks. It’s believed to have been taken on the 28th or 29th of September 2012. The hand carved wooden sign, valued at approximately $1,000.00, marked the entrance to the upper canyon area.
Saturday, October 20
At 12:56 am, officers responded to the 100 block of West Sierra Madre Boulevard regarding a battery that had just occurred at a local bar. Officers arrived and determined that a verbal argument ensued after a drink was accidentally spilled on a patron. After the argument ended an uninvolved female punched the female victim in the face causing her nose to bleed. The female suspect left the scene prior to police arrival. Officers conducted an investigation and identified the suspect, but the victim refused to file charges and prosecute the suspect.
Sunday, October 21
At 12:57 am, officers responded to Kersting Court regarding a petty theft. The suspect reportedly took a glass mug filled with alcohol from an outdoor tabletop of the local restaurant. Officers conducted an area check for the suspect and found the 25 year old male suspect walking eastbound on Laurel Avenue from Baldwin Avenue with a group of friends still holding the stolen glass mug in his hand. The suspect was un-cooperative with officers and found to be so intoxicated that he was unable to care for himself. The suspect was arrested and transported to Pasadena PD jail for remand.
