Fifty years after its debut, the Cobra racing car continues as a classic icon in Southern California’s car culture. Serpents in the Garden provides a unique opportunity to see 30 Cobras, including 5 originals, at a two-day car exhibit within the Arboretum.
Created by legendary racecar driver Carroll Shelby, the Cobra with its powerful American V-8 engine and sleek design was a huge success on the racetrack, winning numerous Sports Car Club of America championships. Each car has found its own special place in the Arboretum landscape, creating a Cobra treasure hunt across the 127 acres. Original Shelby Cobras built between1962-1967 have become prized collectors’ items. Serpents in the Garden also features car and snake-themed children’s activities for budding car enthusiasts.
