Downed Power Line Sparks Vegetation Fire

On Friday September 14, 2012, at 2:04 p.m. Arcadia Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1000 block of Greenfield Avenue. While enroute, suppression personnel were advised that the incident involved a transformer fire with no structure involvement.
Upon arrival fire crews found a vegetation fire caused by a downed power line in a rear yard and in between two single family dwellings. Firefighters extinguished the fire within ten minutes of arrival and requested Southern California Edison respond to the scene.
A power outage resulted from the downed power line. It is not known at this time how widespread the power outage is, but appears to encompass a large portion of the City, including Westfield Mall, Arcadia Methodist Hospital, and City Hall.
