The Pasadena Conservatory of Music presents Guitar Nights, a free monthly showcase of guitar performers occurring on the third Tuesday of each month. Produced by Guitar Department Chair Felix Bullock, Guitar Nights is a genre-busting feast of performances by veteran guitarists as well as emerging artists.
The opening concert is on Tuesday, September 18, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and will feature Hungarian classical guitarist Andras Csaki, jazz guitarist Mike Scott and Alex Mansour, an emerging young classical guitarist.
In ensuing months, a broad range of performers will take the stage, representing a wide-range of styles, including classical, jazz, bluegrass, flamenco and world music. Performing groups will vary from soloists to large, multi-instrumental groups.
“We are launching this series because we want Guitar Nights audiences to get a taste of the enormous amount of talent in Los Angeles,” says Bullock. “Because we are in Southern California, there’s a wealth of guitarists who regularly work in the recording studios and are working or studying in university programs in the area. Guitar Nights will be a place where musicians will feel the freedom to try new material in front of a warm, receptive audience, regardless of style or performing experience.”
András Csáki, winner of 24 international prizes, including first place in the 51st Tokyo International Guitar Competition in 2008, the 42nd Michele Pittaluga Guitar Competition in Alessandria, Italy and the 12th Julian Arcas Guitar Competition in Almeria, Spain, is pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of Southern California as a student of Scott Tennant.
Jazz guitarist Mike Scott’s varied career includes performing, recording, composing and teaching. He has performed throughout the United States, recorded for television and film soundtracks, played as a sideman for a number of CD projects and has had the opportunity to perform with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Monica Mancini, Seamus Blake, Matt Wilson, Abraham Laboriel, and Vince Mendoza.
He has also performed with the Colorado Symphony, the Pasadena Pops Orchestra and the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. Mike is currently a faculty member at Fullerton College.
Alex Mansour currently studies in the studio of Felix Bullock at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, where he is also a member of the Pasadena Conservatory Guitar Quartet, coached by Scott Tennant.
Guitar Nights will be held in Room 300, the Conservatory’s recently remodeled performance space. Reservations are not needed and seating will be on a first-come basis.
