Most magicians use magic woods to create their mystifying feats: “abra-cadabra, presto-digito”, the usual mumbo-jumbo. Chef Claud Beltran will work his magic with Mumbo Gumbo, waving a ladle rather than a magic wand. And the culinary magic he makes will benefit Rosemary’s Children’s Services. His Mumbo Gumbo Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, September 16, from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Boston Court Performing Arts Center in Pasadena
He will be dishing up three different gumbo along with shrimp. There will also be live music from three different vband with styles varying from blues to jazz and folk. Wine will be provided by Noir Food & Wine, the Pasadena restaurant where Beltran is co-owner and executive chef. T-Boyles will provide the beer.
Tickets are $49 in advance and can be purchased a on the event’s website: wwwgubmofestpasadena.com. If space is available, tickets will also be available on the day of the event for $60 (cash only at the event). The Arts Center is located at 70 N. Mentor Avenue in Pasadena.
Since the 1920s when Rosemary’s Cottage opened in Pasadena as a shelter for abused girls, the group behind it has worked to assist children who have been abused, neglected and abandoned. That one small cottage for girls has grown.
There is now a Foster Care program that helps nearly 400 children annually throughout Los Angeles and Riverside Counties. There are also programs for special education in a small structured environment , Mental Health Programs, and a Residential Program that now includes Rosemary’s Cottage and four group homes.
