Back to School Nights in September

Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) officials encourage parents to attend Back to School nights to meet teachers, see classrooms and get a glimpse of their child’s daily routine. PUSD Back to School night events begin September 12.

“Back to School nights are an excellent opportunity for parents to get involved in their child’s education and set the tone for a positive year,” said Superintendent Jon R. Gundry. “The evenings are designed to establish partnerships between parents and teachers, counselors, staff, administrators and fellow parents to support students.”

Parents visit classrooms, meet teachers and learn about students’ daily routines and activities. The curriculum, goals for achievement and expectations for homework and behavior are important parts of the evening. To help build a school community that supports learning and achievement, parents can join groups such as the PTA and/or the school site council.

“Our schools offer wonderful opportunities for parents to volunteer and get involved,” said Gundry. “Whether you can contribute knowledge and skills or leadership and advocacy, our schools welcome you as partners to support student achievement.”

To maximize their time during the event, parents are urged to arrive promptly and ask questions that are relevant to the entire class, such as how parents can support learning at home, projects and homework. Questions about an individual child’s progress or needs should be discussed privately with the teacher.
