A Noise Within Awarded Grants from the Rose Hills Foundation
A Noise Within (ANW), an acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, received $75,000 in grants in July, including $50,000 from The Rose Hills Foundation (Pasadena) and a $25,000 Shakespeare for a New Generation grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. According to ANW Producing Artistic Directors Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, the funds were awarded for the company’s distinguished “Classics Live!” education programs that provide access for students to the company’s live performances.
The Rose Hills Foundation’s $50,000 grant helps underwrite student attendance at ANW performances and special student matinees as well as professional development workshops for educators.
The National Endowment of the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest awarded a $25,000 Shakespeare for a New Generation grant to ANW to underwrite 1,500 scholarships for students from 10 area schools to attend ANW’s production of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline and participate in the “Classics Live!” education program.
“We are deeply grateful to both organizations for recognizing A Noise Within’s education programs, which not only provide young people with access to the performing arts, but also increases their exposure to classical literature,” says Elliott. Rodriguez-Elliott adds, “These generous grants contribute to students’ ability to experience the classic literature they study in the classroom in its intended form – a live performance in the theatre.”
A Noise Within is the only year-round classical repertory company in Southern California and one of only a handful in the entire country dedicated solely to producing classical dramatic literature in the repertory tradition.
