Police Blotters 8/30/12
Arcadia PD
Sunday, August 19:
Around 1:07 a.m., officers responded to Arcadia Methodist Hospital, 300 West Huntington Drive, in regards to a stabbing victim being treated in the emergency room. The victim stated that while he was jogging at Eisenhower Park, 601 North Second Avenue, he overheard an argument between two subjects and attempted to intervene by yelling. As he jogged away, a male subject approached him from behind and stabbed him numerous times. The victim ran to his vehicle, drove home, and had his family drive him to the hospital. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau. At approximately 2:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 200 block of Hacienda Drive regarding a residential burglary report. The victim discovered unknown suspect(s) forced entry into his pool house through a bathroom window. The suspect ransacked the location and fled undetected. The loss was unknown at the time of the report.
Monday, August 20:
At about 12:00 p.m., unknown suspect(s) stole a purse at Victoria’s Secret at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue. The victim realized she left her purse at the register, however when she returned to the location it was nowhere to be found. No one saw or heard anything suspicious. Around 11:28 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a stop sign violation in the area of Camino Real Avenue and Mayflower Avenue. The officer discovered the driver had a suspended license. The 21-year-old Hispanic male was cited, released in the field, and his vehicle was released to a friend.
Tuesday, August 21:
Shortly after 2:00 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for not having a rear license plate on First Avenue, north of Haven Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and person. An investigation revealed the driver was under the influence. The 31-year-old White male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. At about 1:53 p.m., an officer responded to the 400 block of West Norman Avenue regarding a residential burglary report. An unknown male suspect, posing as a construction worker, asked the resident if he could check the “sanitation” of his water. The victim agreed and observed the suspect walk through the residence. Shortly after, the suspect led the victim to the backyard where he carried-on a long conversation. After he left, the victim discovered someone entered his home through the front door, ransacked his bedrooms, and stole property including cash and jewelry. Suspect one is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 30-years-old, 6’2” tall, 215 lbs., with short black hair, wearing black studded earrings.
Wednesday, August 22:
Shortly after 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to Hollywood Noodle, 48 East Live Oak Avenue, in reference to an activated alarm. An investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) forced entry through a window and fled undetected with approximately $500. Officers dusted the area for fingerprints and located one. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.
At about 2:15 p.m., an officer responded to Macy’s at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a fight between two subjects. While mall security attempted to break apart the two subjects, one subject punched the security guard in the face with a closed fist. The 20-year-old Hispanic male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Thursday, August 23:
Around 2:40 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a black Mercedes for making illegal lane changes in the area of El Monte Avenue and Campus Drive. The officer discovered the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The 25-year-old White female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. At approximately 5:30 p.m., an officer responded to Arcadia Mobil Service, 679 West Duarte Road, in regards to a theft report. An employee discovered her mountain bicycle was missing, which she had locked to a light pole near the side of the business. She had no idea who stole her property and no one reported hearing or seeing anything suspicious.
Friday, August 24:
At about 6:42 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the parking lot of Burlington Coat Factory, 1201 South Baldwin Avenue, in reference to a male subject who appeared unconscious. An investigation revealed the subject was highly intoxicated and unable to care for himself. The 23-year-old Hispanic male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. At approximately 8:11 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Ralphs, 16 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a theft investigation. A male subject concealed a bottle of alcohol inside his pants and exited the store without making payment. The subject provided false information; however, a fingerprint check revealed he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The 22-year-old White male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail.
Saturday, August 25:
At about 4:08 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Holly Avenue and Las Tunas Drive regarding a male subject asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle. Upon contact with the driver, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person. An investigation revealed he was driving under the influence. The 43-year-old White male was arrested, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and his vehicle was impounded. Shortly after 7:00 p.m., officers responded to Macy’s at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to a theft report. A female subject concealed merchandise inside her baby’s stroller and exited the store without making payment. An investigation revealed she was in possession of burglary tools. The 32-year-old Hispanic female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Warrant / Parolee at Large – Suspect Arrested
August 16 at 7:20 a.m., police were requested to the 800 block of West Chestnut regarding a male transient sleeping on a bench on a business property near their front lobby. Officers arrived and recognized the subject from prior contacts. Computer checks revealed he had an outstanding warrant out of Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and a no-bail parolee-at-large warrant. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Disturbed Subject / Mental Evaluation
August 16 at 16:27 p.m., police dispatch received a call reporting a male subject walking around holding a knife in the 300 block of West Duarte. After making the initial report the caller hung up the phone. Officers responded and located the subject in a parking area. The subject was holding a large knife and refused to drop it at the request of officers. He stated to the officers that he wanted them to shoot him. One of the officers eventually talked the subject into dropping the knife. The subject was taken into custody.
A check of the subject’s cell phone revealed the phone number was the same as the reporting party. It appears the subject was the one who made the initial report on himself. The subject was taken to a hospital, where he was placed on a 72-hour hold for mental evaluation.
Traffic Collision – Vehicle vs. Pedestrian
August 17 at 8:49 p.m., a 73-year-old female was walking east on Royal Oaks and began to cross Mountain in the pedestrian walkway. The female claims she had a white figure facing her, indicating she was clear to cross the street, when a vehicle turned southbound onto Mountain from Royal Oaks. The driver claims she had a green signal facing her direction of travel. The pedestrian managed to push away from the vehicle with her arms, but still fell to the ground, striking her head on the asphalt. She complained of pain to her left leg, left arm, and her head. She was taken to a hospital, where she is expected to recover from her injuries. The investigation is continuing.
Vehicle Burglary
August 18 at 8:34 a.m., an officer was dispatched to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Eighth Avenue regarding a vehicle burglary. The victim parked her vehicle in a guest parking stall to the rear of the complex in the evening. She locked the vehicle, but had left her purse and laptop on the floorboard, behind the front passenger seat. When she returned to her vehicle the next morning at about 8:30 a.m., she found the rear passenger side window shattered. Her purse, credit cards and laptop were all missing. Investigation continuing.
Stolen Vehicle Recovered
August 18 at 10:36 a.m., the victim of a grand theft auto called to report he had located his stolen vehicle in the 100 block East Colorado. The victim was out riding his bicycle around town and happened to come across his vehicle. The vehicle is a silver, 2005 Toyota Camry and was reported stolen on August 15. Investigation continuing.
Grand Theft Auto / Warrant / Receiving Stolen Property – Suspects Arrested
August 18 at 12:22 p.m., a vehicle was reported stolen from the 100 block of West Lemon. The victim parked her vehicle in her designated parking stall at her apartment complex and locked it. When she returned to the vehicle the next morning it was missing. The vehicle is a green, 1997 Acura Integra.
At 2:02 p.m. the same day, a vehicle burglary was reported in the 200 block of California. The reporting party ran out of his house when his wife told him someone had just broken into his vehicle. He ran to the alley and saw three suspicious subjects in and around a green Acura Integra. He was able to get a picture on his cell phone of the driver, suspects, the vehicle, and the license plate. He attempted to follow the suspects, but lost them. He then went home and called police. Police responded and checked the area. An area search was made and two of the suspects were eventually located. The vehicle license plate was found to belong to the stolen Acura from earlier that morning. The pictures taken by the reporting party positively identified the driver of the stolen vehicle. The second suspect was found to have an outstanding warrant. Both suspects were arrested and taken into custody.
In the early morning hours of the next day, officers located the third outstanding suspect sleeping in an alley. He had shaved his head in an attempt to alter his appearance. He was taken into custody with incident. August 19 at 8:38 p.m., an officer on patrol was driving through an alley in the 200 block of West Colorado and located the stolen green Acura parked in a carport stall of an apartment complex. The vehicle was recovered.
Sierra Madre PD
Monday, August 20
At 3:30am, an officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for the stop sign at Orange Grove and Baldwin Avenue. As the vehicle travelled east on Orange Grove, it accelerated to 50 MPH and while making the turn onto Mountain Trail, nearly collided with the curb. After stopping the vehicle, the officer determined that the driver had been drinking. The driver, a male 24 years of age, was subsequently arrested for DUI.
Tuesday, August 21
A resident parked her vehicle overnight on the street in the 300 block of Sycamore Street. The next morning, she discovered that her handicap placard was missing from the dashboard. The investigation revealed that the car was not locked.
Residents in the 200 Block of Grove Street reported that on multiple dates in August, certain rooms were ransacked and property was missing from their house. The investigation did not find any evidence of forced entry and detectives are looking into acquaintances that had access to the residence on a number of occasions.
At noon, at minor non-injury traffic collision occurred at Grandview Avenue and Baldwin Avenue. One party had attempted to pass a waste collection truck on the right unaware that the truck was attempting to make a right turn.
Friday, August 24
At 2pm, a customer entered the post office at 61 S. Baldwin Avenue to make a transaction. She set her wallet on the counter then walked away for a few moments. Upon return, she discovered the wallet was missing. No one in the post office at the time saw anyone take the wallet.
Sunday, August 26
At 3:34pm a motorcyclist collided with the guard rail at Santa Anita Avenue and Arno Drive. The driver lost control of the vehicle due to a medical condition. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
