On Saturday, August 25 – 10AM

For the second consecutive year, Santa Anita Park will host the local American Youth Soccer Organization’s (AYSO) Opening Day event this Saturday, Aug. 25.
Hosted by Arcadia’s AYSO Region 2, the event attracted more than 3,000 parents, players and local residents last year and is scheduled to “kickoff” this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Santa Anita’s spacious Infield area.
Opening ceremonies will feature a parade of all players in Region 2’s U5, U6, U7, U8 and U10 divisions.
“Immediately following the parade, Region 2 will acknowledge the communities, school districts and corporate sponsors that make each season a success,” said Michael Belter, AYSO Region 2 Upper Division Coordinator. “In addition to Santa Anita, the cities of Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Duarte, Monrovia and Bradbury have all been very supportive, as have the Monrovia Unified School District, Arcadia Unified School Board, the Duarte Unified School Board and the Arcadia Parks and Recreation Department.”
Belter also noted that special recognition will be given to the coaches and families of Region 2’s BU14 and BU10 teams that participated in AYSO’s national tournament this past month in Knoxville, Tennessee.
“This was a great event for us last year and we expect this Saturday’s ‘Kickoff’ is going to be even better,” said Santa Anita Director of Community Services & Special Projects, Pete Siberell. “This is great community outreach for us. It’s exciting to see all of these kids gathered along with their parents and having an enjoyable day. Santa Anita is a proud supporter of AYSO and we hope to see all of these folks back here in the weeks and months ahead.”
Participants in Saturday’s AYSO event are encouraged to enter Santa Anita’s infield parking lot at Gate 6, off of Colorado Place.
Santa Anita’s 2012 Autumn Meet will begin on Sept. 28 and Santa Anita will again host the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Nov. 2 & 3. For more information, visit www.santaanita.com, or call (626) 574-RACE.
