Police Blotters 8/9/12
Arcadia PD
Sunday, June 3:
At approximately 4:30 p.m., an officer responded to Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Drive, regarding a suspicious circumstances report. The officer located two juveniles of which one was carrying a glass bottle filled with gasoline. An investigation revealed the juveniles were attempting to commit arson. The 14-year-old Korean male and 15-year-old Asian male were arrested, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and later released to their parents.
Around 9:36 p.m., an officer responded to Nordstrom at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in reference to a theft report. A female suspect concealed various merchandise inside her purse and exited the store without making payment. An investigation revealed she was also in possession of stolen merchandise from Macy’s. The 37-year-old Chinese female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Monday, June 4:
At about 4:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to AM PM, 625 West Las Tunas Drive, in regards to a hit and run involving a drunk pedestrian. The subject explained he was run over by the rear wheels of a tractor trailer; however, store video surveillance revealed the subject intentionally threw himself under the truck. The 20-year-old Hispanic male was arrested for Public Intoxication and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking after he received medical clearance.
Shortly after 8:25 a.m., officers responded to Yuexin Global Logistics, 800 West Duarte Road, in regards to a burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry through a locked deadbolt and fled with two laptop computers, a computer server, and other valuables. No one heard or saw anything suspicious.
Tuesday, June 5:
Around 5:07 a.m., an officer observed a large amount of smoke coming from the southeast corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Duarte Road. As he came across an alley way, he discovered a parked trailer was fully engulfed in flames. Arcadia Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. No evidence of arson was located.
At approximately 6:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to Arcadia Methodist Hospital regarding a battery that took place at 24 Hour Fitness, 125 North First Street. The victim explained another player became too aggressive while playing basketball and threw a ball at his face. After a physical fight ensued, the other player bit him in the back twice. The suspect is described as a black male adult, 5’9” tall, 180 to 200 lbs., athletic build with tattoos on his arms.
Wednesday, June 6:
At about 8:10 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a two-party traffic collision on Huntington Drive, west of Morlan Place. An investigation revealed party-one failed to stop for slowing traffic and struck the vehicle in front of her. No injuries were reported.
At approximately 10:06 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota for a warrant attached to the license plate, in the area of Highland Oaks Avenue and Sycamore Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. A vehicle search revealed the 18-year-old White male was in possession of marijuana and alcoholic beverages. He was cited and released in the field.
Thursday, June 7:
Shortly after 9:20 a.m., an officer responded to the 100 block of Alice Street regarding a theft from a vehicle report. The victim left her purse on the front passenger seat while she walked her son to school. When she returned, she discovered her front driver side window smashed and her Louis Vuitton purse missing. No one saw or heard anything suspicious.
At about 2:58 p.m., an officer was dispatched to H&M at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in reference to a theft report. A female suspect concealed several items inside a used shopping bag and exited the store without making payment. An investigation revealed she also stole from Zumies and Spencers. The 15-year-old Hispanic female was arrested, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and later released to her mother.
Friday, June 8:
Shortly after midnight, officers located a damaged mailbox in the 500 block of West Longden Avenue. Further inspection revealed six other houses in the area had the same type of damage. None of the residents knew their mailboxes had been vandalized and they did not see anyone suspicious in the area.
Around 11:58 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of Huntington Drive and Second Avenue regarding a robbery that had just occurred. While the victim was riding his bike home from work, he was approached by three Hispanic young adult males who forced him into the rear of a building. The suspects brandished a pistol, demanded money, and assaulted the victim. They fled the scene with approximately $200. The victim recognized one suspect and can identify him if seen again.
Saturday, June 9:
Shortly after 3:45 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a silver Acura TL for a warrant attached to the license plate, in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Camino Real Avenue. An investigation revealed the driver had a suspended license. The 47-year-old Hispanic female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
At about 5:10 p.m., an officer responded to the traffic stop taking place on Santa Anita Avenue at Camino Real Avenue to assist with a juvenile who approached the scene to report she was missing. The officer transported the juvenile to the Arcadia Police Department where a records check revealed she was missing out of El Monte. An investigation revealed the juvenile ran off after an argument with her mother. She was later released to her parents.
Monrovia PD
Threats / Annoying Phone Calls
July 23 at 5:09 p.m., a mental health facility in the 2600 block of South California called to report a disturbed client who was making threatening phone calls and was now at the facility. The client is a 42-year-old, male Hispanic subject. He was upset at his doctor and was demanding a termination of service form. The subject is schizophrenic, off his medication, and was acting oddly and making wild allegations. Officers responded, but the subject left the location prior to their arrival. The suspect was not located. The investigation is continuing.
Vehicle Burglary
July 24 at 8:58 p.m., a vehicle burglary was reported in a business parking lot in the 700 block of East Huntington. The burglary occurred between 7:15 and 8:45 p.m. The victim left the windows of the vehicle down 4 to 5 inches. A wallet and the car stereo were stolen. Investigation continuing.
Vehicle Burglary
On July 26 at 8:34 a.m., a vehicle burglary was reported in the 100 block of East Greystone. The victim reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle during the night and took a gas credit card, change, receipts and a cup holder. Investigation continuing.
Vehicle Burglary
On July 26 at 12:39 p.m., an officer responded to the 100 block of West Olive regarding a vehicle burglary. The victim reported that someone broke in to her vehicle sometime during the night and took property from her vehicle. She had parked her vehicle in the parking structure and returned to find her driver’s door ajar. The property taken was a baby stroller and a pair of Gucci sunglasses. No signs of forced entry. Investigation continuing.
Bear Incident
On July 27 at 6:59 p.m., a small bear tore the screen off of a residential window and entered the residence in the 800 block of Ridgeside. It ate some cat food that was placed on the kitchen floor and left the location. Approximately 20 minutes later the bear returned and ate more cat food that was placed on the front porch which was intended for the cat.
Criminal Threats
On July 28 at 8:10 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of West Foothill regarding a male subject who verbally threatened to kill the security guard. The security guard pepper sprayed the subject and called the police. The subject was located and arrested for criminal threats.
Suspicious Device
On July 28 at 8:20 p.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of Estrella Avenue regarding a suspicious device that was affixed to a street sign. In the interest of public safety Monrovia Police Officers evacuated residents and established a perimeter around the immediate area. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was notified and arrived within 30 minutes. Sheriff’s Deputies detonated the device and rendered it safe. Residents were allowed to return to their homes. The device was not found to be an explosive.
Sierra Madre PD
Tuesday July 31,
Unknown suspects forced entry into a residence in the 500 block of Sierra Meadow Drive. The residence was under construction at the time and entry was made by prying off a wood panel that secured the front entryway. Two laptop computers were removed from the living room but there was no other property taken or evidence of ransacking.
A resident parked her vehicle on Laurel Avenue near Lima Street leaving her purse on the floorboard. When she returned three hours later she discovered the right front passenger window had been broken and the purse gone. It was later determined that her credit cards were used at three retail locations in Monrovia and Duarte. Detectives are obtaining video from the locations in an attempt to identify the suspect.
Wednesday August 1
Unknown suspects entered a classroom on the Sierra Madre Middle School Campus by climbing into an unlocked window. While inside, the suspects ransacked the supply cabinets and then broke out a window. Damage is estimated at $125.00. The school was the victim of a burglary on July 25th. Two juvenile subjects were arrested in that earlier incident.
Sunday August 5,
At approximately 7:45 pm, a male was observed walking onto a residential property in the 100 block of South Lima Street. The male disappeared from sight for a few minutes then was observed exiting the property and walking southbound on Lima Street. When the resident returned to the house, she discovered that cash and small items of value were missing from the residence. It is unknown how the suspect entered the residence.
A few minutes later a male of similar description entered the Sierra Madre Methodist “Old Church” at 191 West Sierra Madre Boulevard where services were taking place. When confronted, the male stated he was looking for a restroom. He entered the rest room and was observed leaving the church a few moments later. After he left, a parishioner discovered that cash was missing from her purse that had been kept in the guest room.
The suspect description in both instances is similar – Male Black 40-50 years of age 6’0”tall weighing 180 pounds. In the Lima Street incident, the suspect was observed wearing a yellow button down type shirt. In the Methodist Church incident, the suspect was observed wearing a beige leather jacket, black pants and carrying a straw hat.
Pasadena PD

The victim was walking south on Fair Oaks Ave. when she was followed by the suspect. The suspect suddenly grabbed the victim and forced her onto the ground off the sidewalk. The suspect attempted to pull off the victim’s shorts and grabbed the victim’s breasts and buttocks. The victim was able to get away and ran from the suspect. The area was searched but the suspect was not located.

The victim missed the bus and was attempting to get home. The suspect offered the victim a ride home and the victim got in the suspect’s car. The suspect stopped his car at Howard/Raymond Ave. and then sexually assaulted the victim in the vehicle. The suspect fled the area and no witnesses were located.

The 2 suspects threaten to injure the victim based on a past incident involving a male inside Jerry’s
Billiards. The victim walked into the bathroom and a fight ensued. During the fight one of the
suspects took the victim’s keys from her pants pocket and fled the area. The area was searched for
the suspects but they were not located.
