Gumbo in Monrovia
A Benefit for Rosemary’s Children’s Services
By Susan Motander
Next Thursday, August 16, California Wine and Cheese is changing its wine and food pairing dinner to a celebration of Gumbo in order to promote a benefit for Rosemary’s Children’s Services Cottage. Usually the Monrovia wine shop has a four mini-course meal paired with tastes of wines selected for greatest enjoyment of each. These events occur each Thursday evening. Next week will be a little different.
Chef Claud Beltran of Noir Food and Wine in Pasadena, is bringing his favorite Chicken and Andoiulle Gumbo to the wine shop. He is also serving a Chicory Green Salad with Cajun Ceasar Dressing. The Gumbo is compliments of Chef Claud, and appropriate wines will be available for purchase by the glass. Also available will be coupons for a discount to the September 16 Mumbo Jumbo event in Pasadena.
The Pasadena event will feature more food, more wine, live music and dancing. All the money raised at the Pasadena event will be donated directly to Rosemary’s Children. The Thursday night pairing events at California Wine and Cheese have become very popular in the last few months. Each of the four courses is paired with a wine suited to the food. Usually there are two white and two reds poured. The shop brings in local caterers or restaurants to prepare the meals.
Last week the Monrovia Restaurant Sena supplied the food in honor of International Albariño Day. This week the food is being supplied by Old Town Bistro. It will be an Italian inspired menu featuring antipasto salad, two delicious Italian entrees, desert and wines to compliment each course . Reservations are required for these food and wine pairings, but no reservations will be required for Gumbo event next week.
The menus for the Thursday night dinners are available on the CWC website: www.cawineandcheese.com or can be sent directly to your email if you sign up in the shop. 115 West Foothill , Monrovia CA (626) 358-6500
