“Teen Depression and Suicide Signs” Workshop slated for August 13

A letter was sent out to all parents of MUSD after a recent apparent suicide by one of the district’s students.
Monrovia Unified School District has a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times . CIT responded to the tragedy by speaking with a number of the student’s closest friends and providing critical incident response for students who were in the summer school program at Santa Fe.
The district will be holding an information meeting for parents/guardians on how to talk to children about suicide and steps that children and adults should take if they are concerned about depression or thoughts of self-harm in themselves or in friends or family members. The meeting will be taking place on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 6:00 PM in MHS Auditorium.

On August 13 and 14, Five Acres, counseling agency in partnership with Santa Anita family YMCA will be hosting a teen workshop, Teen Depression and Suicide: Signs, Symptoms, & Solutions. More information is available on the Monrovia Unified School District website listed above. Prior to school starting, if you would like additional information or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Loretta Whitson, Director of Student Services (626)471-2034 for the district.
