Local author transports us into another world, bringing to life the magic of elves and the clash of vampires in this new fantasy fiction trilogy.
Monrovia resident and creative 22 year old, Ashley Catherine Howie, transports us into the land of Elayia and the elves, men and many others struggling to survive the silent war against the wrath of the vampires in her recently published The Butterfly Pendant, the first book in the trilogy eight years in the making.
The Butterfly Pendant is the first book in the new fantasy fiction trilogy that takes us on a wild ride following a girl name Sarah and the journey from her life on Earth to the new life she was always meant to live in Elayia. The key and an Elvin princess, Sarah quickly finds herself responding to her Elvin name Andala and must embrace becoming who she was always meant to be in order for the prophecy to come true. Ashley Catherine Howie brings to life the lost love for elves and gore of the vampires that fantasy fiction admirers adore.
Ashley has always enjoyed writing, starting back in grade school where her biggest influences were the teachers that encouraged her to follow her passion. She attended Annunciation School In Arcadia from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade. From there, she went to La Salle High School in Pasadena where she graduated in 2008. The idea for the Butterfly Pendant started with a map and a language she invented when she was 13 years old and from there, it continued to flourish to what it is today. She is currently at the Art Institute of Orange County for her Bachelors Degree in Culinary Management. Here, she met two teachers who loved the story and told her to keep going and expand it into a trilogy. When she isn’t writing or cooking, Ashley can be found at the local Renaissance Faire acting in the 4D theater or in her garden where she grows vegetables and prepares healthy meals for her family and friends.
The Butterfly Pendant is a great read for ages 13 to 18 but hits the hearts of those who enjoy the fantasy fiction genre. The adventure, tension between characters and Andala’s ultimate decision in the fate of their world keeps the reader sitting on the edge, wanting more. The landscape of the world of Elayia elates the mind with silver leaves, red trees and butterflies the size of eagles. Elves, dwarves, darthans, fairies and more share the land working together to survive against a common enemy, the vampires. Coming in during the night, the vampires drain the blood of their victims leaving them unaware of their imminent death and plaguing the land with a silent fear. The future of Elayia rests on the shoulders of Andala.

Both adults and children will enjoy this book. You can find it at the publisher’s website www.blackrosewritingbooks.com or amazon.com.
