Rose Bowl Water Polo Club Breaks Its Own Records
2012 Junior Olympics Qualification Tournament
The Rose Bowl Water Polo Club (RBWPC) scored its best finish ever
in the California Coastal Zone’s (CCA) Junior Olympics Qualification Tournament, finishing with three
first places, one second place, three third places, two fourth places and one ninth place, which
represents the highest finish at the CCA event for the RBWPC.
The 2012 CCA Junior Olympics Qualification Tournament for 18 & Under took place in the Santa Barbara area from June 22 – June 24, 2012. RBWPC sent ten boys, girls, and coed teams to compete at
this nationally recognized competition that hosted over 100 teams from all over California.
The following lists the RBWPC teams in chronological order, and their respective scores and coaches:
U10 Coed: 1st – Coached by Joe Zig
U12 Girls: 3rd – Coached by Robin Harney
U12 Boys: 3rd – Coached by Westen Lawton

This win comes under the direction of RBWPC’s elite coaching staff, whom all ten have distinguished
competitive careers as well as significant regional, national and international coaching experience.
Working together, they have led teams of young athletes to national recognition as an elite program by
USA Water Polo, Inc. (USAWP). Under the leadership of Daniel Leyson, Rose Bowl Aquatics Center
Head Water Polo Coach, who was the former assistant coach of the 2004 USA Olympic team, the Rose
Bowl Water Polo program has grown to more than 200 members (4th-12th grades) from 72 area
schools in the past 5 years.
“This is truly a testament to the hardworking Rose Bowl players and their very knowledgeable coaching
staff,” stated Coach Leyson. “Adam Roth and I have assembled a talented group of coaches, including
two-time NCAA national champion, Luther Wiedner and 2007 NCAA finalist, Nicki Maichrowicz.”
