Judge Defends City Position on Layoffs

Denies Motion for Preliminary Injunction

Judge Luis A. Levin decided the case, Pasadena Management Association, et al vs. City of Pasadena has no merit.
Levin denied the union’s motion and upheld the City’s position that it did operate fully according to law, i.e. the Brown Act / Open Meeting and that the layoffs were validly based on budget decisions. Although it is possible to appeal this decision, the next hearing currently scheduled is the trial court date on Sept. 6, and the City will be seeking dismissal of the entire lawsuit at that time.
