Up to 15 Gallons of Free Compost for Athens Customers

The City of Temple City and Athens Services team up for a second time to host the Annual Compost Giveaway, Saturday, July 14, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Temple City Park, 9701 Las Tunas Dr.
“Last year, residents began lining up at 6 a.m. to receive the free compost,” said Public Safety Officer Bryan Ariizumi. This year, to increase efficiency, the event will be held as a drive-through. “Residents will stay in their vehicles and drive into the parking lot, at which time they can load their compost.”
According to Ariizumi, the material is organic and locally sourced, made from yard waste, paper litter and street sweeping debris collected citywide by Athens. Repurposing these materials helps keep the city clean while allowing residents to be a positive part of the recycling loop.
Event participation is limited to Athens customers of Temple City. A recent trash bill or a photo ID addressed to an Athens-serviced property is required. Participants should bring sturdy containers (i.e., trashcans, plastic containers or buckets with handles), and may fill up to 15 gallons of free compost per household. Residents with bags (i.e., trash bags, shopping bags, rice bags, etc.) will be turned away from the event. Supplies are limited so those interested are encouraged to arrive early.
For more information, contact Ed Chen at Athens, (626) 233-5524.
