Rep. Chu: Responsible Steward of Public Funds

Congresswoman amongst Most Frugal Members From California
A recent study by the nonpartisan Sunlight Foundation that was publicized by USA Today found that Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-32) was one of the most responsible Congressional leaders when it comes to spending taxpayer money. Rep. Chu ranked 6th out of the 53-member delegation from California, and 4th among her fellow Democrats.
“Everyone knows how important it is to tighten belts during difficult economic times – and that’s especially true for those of us responsible for spending the taxpayers’ money. I’m proud to be recognized by a nonpartisan group for seeking to save the American people money. Members of Congress should guard the public’s money as closely as working Americans have to guard their own incomes – when people are struggling to make ends meet, we must double our efforts to ensure government spending is thoughtful.
Congresswoman Chu only spent 78.4 percent of the federal money allotted to her in 2011, returning the rest to the taxpayers. She ranked sixth among California Members for judicious spending, and fourth amongst Democrats from her home state. The complete study was reported on by USA Today.
