ALS Fundraiser Nets $1600 – Fat Tire Ale Cruiser Given Away

Lucky Baldwin’s sold a lot of raffle tickets at $5.00 each a couple of weeks ago in honor of Dave Farnworth, co-owner of Lucky Baldwin’s who passed away last year from from ALS. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Local businessman Dave Peterson wasn’t in town when his name was called two weeks ago as the winner of the raffle for a Fat Tire Ale Beach Cruiser. However, upon his return, he hiked a great distance from his home to 1770 East Colorado to take delivery of the newly won bike donated by Fat Tire , New Belgium Brewing Company.
The Fat Tire recipe originates from a co-founder’s bicycle trip through Belgium from brewery to brewery. The company promotes its Fat Tire ale locally by the public placement of colorful vintage bicycles outside its brewery, which is located adjacent to the public bike path along the Cache La Poudre River.
In 2006 NBB changed its logo. They did so because the company realized that beer drinkers could identify the Fat Tire label, but “didn’t recognize the brewery label, or make the connection that New Belgium brewed Fat Tire and other best-selling brands, such as Sunshine Wheat.” The company’s new logo “pays homage to the well-known Fat Tire brand bicycle” drawn by Anne Fitch.
Upon reciept of his new found transportation and before he peddled- off into the sunset, Peterson had a celebratory pint and said ” I would like to thank Peggy and all the staff at Lucky Baldwin’s for maintaining fun neighborhood-friendly establishments.” He continued that he was delighted to be part of the fundraiser for ALS.
