California Mission Schola will present a concert featuring the music of missions in California on Saturday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the old mission church at San Gabriel Mission.
The group was formed to revive the historical sacred music in California from the early mission period, about 1770 to 1840. These works are the earliest examples of polyphonic and orchestral music performed in California, announced a group spokesperson.
The choral ensemble will be accompanied by an orchestra with strings, wind, brass, percussion, classical guitars, harp and organ.
The group says this type of music has not been accurately performed in nearly 200 years.
Tickets for general seating are $20 at the door.
Free parking for the concert will be in San Gabriel Mission church parking lot, 427 S. Junipero Serra Dr. (at Mission Road), San Gabriel, CA 91776 or on nearby streets.
