Mt. Sierra College Reaches Out to the Community
By Susan Motander
Mt. Sierra College in Monrovia has two separate programs to introduce itself to the community. Bridges to College reaches out to High School Seniors to introduce them to college and their extension classes are available free to everyone.
Mt. Sierra regularly offers one-day extension classes at the Monrovia campus. The next program is Saturday, March 31 from noon to 4:00 P.M. There are three programs from which to choose: Poster Design with Photoshop & Typography, Game Character Design, or Anti-hacking & Network Security. To sign up call the college at (626) 873-2100 or contact them at http://mtsierra.edu/msx/
The program for high school seniors is called Bridges to College and allows students to take a class at Mt. Sierra free of charge. Students who are unsure of their future plans or who want to get a head start on their education can take one of three classes at the college. Completing the course successfully can even mean scholarship money toward a Mt. Sierra education.
To participate in this program, one needs to be a high school senior with at least a 2.0 GPA and have applied to Mt. Sierra College. Amazingly, the application fee for the college is only $50, substantially less than most colleges. The classes which are held on Saturday afternoon are eleven weeks long.
The next cycle of classes begins April 14 and last through June 23. For information on the program, contact the college at the above number or at http://mtsierra.edu/b2c/. The classes being offered are Design Basics, Game Design & Game Play, and College Research & Study Skills. If this were not enough of a win-win situation, students who opt to attend Mt. Sierra College after taking the class will receive college credit for the class.

The college, located at the corner of Myrtle and Huntington Drive, offers Bachelors programs in Media Arts and Design, Business and Technology. There is approach is hands-on learning with classes both on line and at the Monrovia campus. There are even programs which combine both. One unique feature of their program is the life long learning aspect. Graduate of the college can return for updated classes at any time, a benefit that is a real boon in a field which changes as rapidly as technology.
