Rebuilding Together presented Monrovia Fire Fighter Mike Bailey with its Martin Luther King Jr. Volunteer Award this month. Rebuilding Together is one of the country’s leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to preserving affordable homeownership and revitalizing communities.
Bailey was honored for his work in helping to rebuild a church in South Central Los Angeles. The long time member of the Monrovia Fire Department said that he was not the only member of the Department who volunteered time and effort on the project which was the brainchild of Stephanie Struckes, daughter of MFD’s Ken Struckes. The collaborative effort was her endeavor for the Americorp Program. More than eight Members of the Monrovia Fire Department worked together to rebuild the facilities at the church.
Bailey said that in addition to the award from Rebuilding Together’s Los Angeles chapter, he also recieved a Letter of Commendation from the President of the United States.
