Learn About Mark Twain’s Other Woman
The Monrovia Public Library, in celebration of Women’s History month will present a special program on Saturday, March 3, “Mark Twain’s Other Woman: The Hidden Story of His Final Years.” It is a chance to learn more about the author whose presence graces a bench in front of the Library.
Laura Skandera Trombley will discuss her newest book of the same title as the program. Trombley will discuss Mark Twain’s last decade and his complicated relationship with his secretary, Isabel Lyon. She will also get into the bitter feud between Twain’s daughter Clara and the manipulative Isabel, as well as divulging other Twain household secrets. Not the usual gossip writer, Trombley is a serious scholar and is currently the fifth President of Pitzer College in Claremont.
The program will be from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Library Community Room. There will be book sales and signing after the program. Light refreshments will be served.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Monrovia Public Library and is free. Registration is encouraged.
