Fire Causes $300,000 Damage to S. First Ave. Structure Thursday
On Thursday, February 2, 2012, at 6:25 pm, Arcadia Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1300 block of South First Avenue in the City of Arcadia. Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, RA 105 responded to the scene, accompanied by Engine 102 from Monrovia Fire Department. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a vacant single-family single story dwelling fully involved in fire.
Suppression personnel determined the structure was dangerously unstable due to a heavy interior fire load. Taking a defensive stance, firefighters extinguished the fire utilizing exterior tactics.
The fire was contained to the structure of origin with no damage to surrounding properties. The subject property, which had been previously vacated and was in escrow at the time of the fire, is directly north of the Dana Middle School gymnasium. Property loss is estimated to be in excess of $300,000.
The cause of the fire in undetermined at this time and remains under investigation.
