Sunday, January 22, 2012 is SPARC Day at Fremont Centre Theatre. SPARC is the South Pasadena Arts Council, which advocates for and promotes the arts in order to recognize local artists as a rich resource within our city and build appreciation and understanding of the value of the arts within the community.
On that date, the Lyric Opera of Los Angeles will perform two one-act operas that are thematically related, “The Telephone” by GianCarlo Menotti, and “The Human Voice” by Francis Poulenc (in an English translation, based on the monologue by Jean Cocteau). A mixer follows the performance.
A portion of the proceeds from the afternoon’s show will benefit SPARC.
In “The Telephone,” Ben has an important question for Lucy, but his attempts to ask it are constantly interrupted by phone calls. In “The Human Voice,” Lucy has an emotional phone call with her former lover on the day before his marriage.
The company includes Amanda McAllister, Laura Sage, Eric Caramptan and Jay Stephenson. Music director: Robert Sage. Stage direction: Aleta Braxton.
Tickets: $25. Students and seniors, $20. Reservations: (866) 811-4111. Online ticketing: www.fremontcentretheatre.com. Show time is 2:00 P.M.
The Fremont Centre Theatre is located at 1000 Fremont Ave. (at El Centro), South Pasadena, CA 91030. There is ample free parking behind the theatre.
The Pasadena Arts Council is the fiscal sponsor for the SPARC.
