Pasadena PD Hosts Inaugural SWAT Competition

The Pasadena Police Department hosted the inaugural SWAT Competition at Burro Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains on Tuesday October 25, 2011. Ten SWAT teams, involving over 70 SWAT officers from Southern California, competed in 6 tactical events to raise over $5,000.00 for the South Pasadena Police Department Kevin Sandoval Scholarship Fund. South Pasadena Police Officer Sandoval died of an unrelated medical condition on June 14, 2011while undergoing tactical training with the Pasadena Police SWAT team at Burro Canyon.
Long Beach PD SWAT team won First Place achieving the highest overall scores in shooting, physical fitness, teamwork and sniper operations. Pasadena PD hosted the event and did not enter a team into the competition.
“This type of competition improves the capabilities of our tactical units in the San Gabriel Valley to better serve our communities in case of future critical incidents,” said Pasadena Police Chief Phillip Sanchez. “And it shows the commitment and care that we all share for the Sandoval family and for the memory of their son, Kevin, who was committed to be the finest tactical officer possible.”
