Fighting For Our Freedom

TEAM CrossFit Academy, the first official Affiliate in Monrovia and 18th CrossFit Affiliate worldwide, is proud to be selected to host the 31 Heroes Tribute Workout on September 3, 2011. The city’s premiere newspaper, Monrovia Weekly, is also a sponsor of the worthy event that pays homage to the 30 American men and one working dog who lost their lives while killed in action in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011.
The 31 Heroes Tribute Workout is taking place at 9:00am the Team CrossFit Academy located at 130 E Walnut Ave in Monrovia, CA 91016. People are encouraged to go to www.31Heroes.com to register for the workout under the “Registration” tab – $31 gets you the workout & a t-shirt. (Register early to ensure receiving your shirt prior to the event).
Hundreds of people are anticipated to participate in Monrovia alone while approximately 2,000 people have signed up so far around the country at the more than 300 participating CrossFit Academy affiliates. To date, more than $100,000.00 has already been raised according to the 31 Heroes facebook page.
“This “Workout To Remember” is close to our hearts as most of the Staff and a handful of the members of the Academy are former US Military and have been deployed in support of both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom,” said Coach Eric LeClair, TEAM CrossFit Academy affiliate owner, Level III Instructor and former Sergeant in the military. “This is a unique event that will expose participants to a challenging workout that will leave them proud…proud of the workout and even prouder that they did something to benefit the families of our lost heroes.”
TEAM CrossFit Academy is a 7,000sq ft. Strength and Conditioning Facility dedicated to serving all individuals from local Monrovia residents, to Monrovia Unified School District’s CIF Championship Football Team, to most local Police and Fire Departments
“Monrovia Weekly is proud to host this event with Team CrossFit Academy to honor those fallen warriors and their families,” said Andrea Olivas, Vice President of Operations of Beacon Media. “I was extremely touched by the willingness of Eric Leclair to jump at such an opportunity to help those in need.”
“There were 30 US men KIA in this tragedy, but there was also one highly trained and heroic working dog,” continued Olivas who also has strong military ties and knew some the warriors who lost their life. “I wanted a way to help those families who are suffering from this traumatic loss. While reading multiple news stories I came across one that introduced the 31 Heroes event, at that moment in time I researched to find local a CrossFit gym and came up on TCA. Since Monrovia Weekly and TEAM CrossFit Academy are neighbors, I knew the fit was perfect. This is a wonderful way to support our warriors and their families.”
All proceeds and donations are being forwarded to the Navy SEAL Founation – “The Navy SEAL Foundation supports all families and their parent commands by easing financial burdens, establishing support networks, and funding command sponsored activities. Within our mission guidelines we will ensure that essential resources are always available to help our families whether or not it is a small need or one of great significance.” www.navysealfoundation.org
If participation isn’t possible donations can be made at www.navySEALfoundation.org or checks can made out to Navy SEAL Foundation and mailed to Beacon Media, 125 E Chestnut Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016 and will be forwarded to the foundation.
