For the period of Sunday, January 9, through Saturday, January 15, the Police Department responded to 938 calls for service of which 130 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, January 9:
Between 9:30 p.m. on January 8 and 10:30 a.m. on January 9, a commercial burglary occurred at HK Café, 558 Las Tunas. Unknown suspect(s) removed a glass pane from a side door to enter the business. The suspect(s) then took plasma televisions, surveillance equipment, music player, and cash for a reported loss of about $2,600.
A grand theft from vehicle occurred between 3:00 p.m. on January 8 and 10:30 a.m. on January 9 in the 900 block of West Wistaria. Unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked vehicle and stole camera/video equipment and a hard drive. The total loss was approximately $2,240.
Monday, January 10:
Units responded to the 500 block of Las Tunas around 8:15 a.m. in reference to a commercial burglary. Unknown suspect(s) entered the location by smashing a hole in a common wall from an adjacent vacant office. The suspect(s) removed a computer and office equipment for reported loss of $4,400.
Another commercial burglary occurred at a construction site located in the 100 block of South Second. Between 5:00 p.m. on January 8 and 11:00 a.m. on January 10, unknown suspect(s) cut the locks to the front gate and storage container in order to steal 8 toilets.
Tuesday, January 11:
Shortly after 10:00 a.m., officers conducted at traffic stop at Michillinda and La Rosa for an expired registration. A record check revealed that the 40-year-old male driver had a suspended license and 2 outstanding misdemeanor warrants totaling $32,000. He was arrested at the scene without incident.
A residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of East Arthur between 9:15 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Unknown suspect(s) forced open a side door window to enter the home and then stole camera equipment, LCD television, and a camcorder.
Wednesday, January 12:
Around 9:55 a.m., a victim came to the station to report a grand theft that occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on January 11. Unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked vehicle in the 500 block of East Live Oak and stole a laptop computer and cash.
A traffic stop was conducted around 10:35 p.m. at First and Santa Clara for an equipment violation. Officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle, and a field sobriety test indicated that the driver was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. A 23-year-old male Caucasian was taken into custody for DUI, and he also admitted to being on probation for DUI in Nebraska.
Thursday, January 13:
Shortly after 3:00 a.m., units responded to the 1500 block of South Baldwin in reference to a domestic disturbance. Investigation revealed that during an argument, the suspect ripped his girlfriend’s shirt, causing minor injuries. A 36-year-old male Filipino was arrested for battery and an emergency protection order was obtained and served.
Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Tenth regarding a residential burglary that occurred between 10:00 a.m. on January 8 and 7:00 p.m. on January 9. Unknown suspect(s) stole a television, gaming consoles, DVD player, iPod, and cell phone from the house with no sign of forced entry.

Friday, January 14:
Around 12:27 a.m., a hit-and-run traffic accident occurred at Foothill and Second. An intoxicated 21-year-old male Caucasian driver fled the scene on foot after colliding with another vehicle. He was apprehended after an area search and was taken into custody for DUI causing injury and hit-and-run resulting in injury.
Around 9:58 a.m., units responded to Foothill Middle School, 171 East Sycamore, regarding a suspicious man videotaping on school grounds. He was asked to leave the premises and school personnel followed him. The 23-year-old Hispanic suspect was seen retrieving a bag hidden in some bushes by Bank of America and was later detained by police. A search of the bag revealed a possible homemade explosive device, and the LASD Bomb Squad was called to the scene. It was confirmed that the device was an explosive and was detonated. The man was arrested for possession of a destructive device and an outstanding warrant.
Saturday, January 15:
Officers were dispatched to Duarte and Lovell around 3:01 p.m. in reference to a disturbance on a Metro bus. A 26-year-old female Asian was crying and yelling for no apparent reason. A consent search of her purse revealed four baggies containing a white crystalline substance resembling methamphetamine. She was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance and a $75,000 outstanding warrant.
A hit-and-run traffic accident was reported in the 800 block of South Golden West around 11:40 p.m. Investigation revealed that an intoxicated driver struck a parked vehicle and then fled the scene. A 24-year-old male Hispanic was later found sleeping underneath a vehicle in the 1000 block of West Huntington and was arrested for DUI, hit-and-run, and unlicensed driver.
