Arcadia Blotter May 29 – June 4

For the period of Sunday, May 29, through Saturday, June 4, the Police Department responded to 962 calls for service of which 122 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, May 29:

1. Shortly after 12:00 a.m., during a DUI checkpoint operation at 301 Baldwin Avenue, a 35-year-old White male was arrested after a records check revealed an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.

2. At about 1:35 a.m., a traffic stop was conducted on Santa Anita Avenue and Linda Rae Avenue due to an illegal right turn. An investigation revealed the 22-year-old Hispanic male driver had been drinking. He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Monday, May 30:

3. At about 3:15 a.m., units were dispatched to the Chevron station located at 102 East Huntington Drive regarding an intoxicated subject. Upon arrival, officers contacted a 30-year-old Black male. An investigation revealed he was under the influence and he was taken into custody for being drunk in public.

4. Between 11:00 p.m. Sunday, May 29th and 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 30th, an auto burglary occurred in the 300 block of El Dorado Street. Unknown suspect(s) smashed the rear passenger window of the car and stole a purse. The approximate loss was $520.00.

Tuesday, May 31:

5. Shortly before 8:30 a.m., while patrolling the area of First Avenue and Alta Street, officers heard an audible alarm coming from Zapata Vive located at 101 South First Avenue. Subsequent investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) had pried open both the side and rear doors of the location. An interior check was conducted and no one was located inside. The office had not been ransacked and no loss was reported.

6. At about 7:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West Las Flores Avenue regarding a dog bite. Upon arrival, officers were advised that two stray dogs, described as a black Labrador and a German shepherd, had attacked and killed a poodle in the victim’s driveway. An area search was conducted for the loose animals. They were located in the area of El Monte Avenue and Wistaria Avenue and restrained. The dogs’ owner was located and the animals were subsequently turned over to the Pasadena Humane Society.

Wednesday, June 1:

7. At approximately 3:30 p.m., units were dispatched to the 00 block of East Rodell Place regarding an audible burglary alarm. Upon arrival, officers were advised that two suspects were seen leaving the location in a white Chevrolet van. The suspects were described as two Black males between 20 and 30-years-old, wearing grey polo shirts with green stripes in the midsection, An area check for the van was unsuccessful. The suspects smashed the rear bedroom window of the residence and stole an Iphone, jewelry, cash and a black Berretta 9mm handgun. A follow-up investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

8. Shortly before 5:00 p.m., while conducting traffic enforcement, an officer observed a black Honda Civic traveling southbound on Colorado Place at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver continued to weave through traffic, cutting off vehicles and failing to stop. The vehicle yielded after a short pursuit and the 19-year-old Hispanic male driver was arrested for reckless driving.

Thursday, June 2:

9. At about 2:40 p.m., while conducting surveillance in the parking lot of 411 East Huntington Drive, Detectives witnessed a narcotics transaction. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Toyota Tundra but the vehicle failed to yield, at which time a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle eventually stopped in the parking lot of the Home Depot in Monrovia where the driver fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, a 28-year-old White male was arrested. The passenger, a 37-year-old Hispanic female was taken into custody as well. An inventory check of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine in addition to stolen coins and baseball cards.

10. Between 8:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., an auto burglary occurred in the 100 block of North First Avenue. Unknown suspect(s) damaged the driver’s side lock of a parked vehicle and stole cash from a wallet located inside. The loss was approximately $120.00.

Friday, June 3:

11. At about 12:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Huntington Drive regarding a man down. Upon arrival, a 73-year-old White male was contacted and determined to be intoxicated. He was placed under arrest for drunk in public.

12. Shortly before 3:00 p.m., an officer was patrolling the area of 400 South Baldwin Avenue. A records check of a silver Kia revealed a misdemeanor warrant was attached to the license plate. The description of the wanted person matched that of the driver and a traffic stop was conducted. Further investigation positively identified the driver as the subject named in the warrant. The 22-year-old Hispanic female was also found to be driving with a suspended driver’s license. She was arrested for the warrant and for driving with a suspended license.

Saturday, June 4:

13. Shortly before 12:00 p.m., officers responded to the Santa Anita race track, located at 285 West Huntington Drive regarding a fight. An investigation revealed that after a verbal confrontation between a 50-year-old Hispanic male and his girlfriend, a 37-year-old Hispanic female, a fight occurred. The female attacked her boyfriend causing visible injuries. She was intoxicated and was placed under arrest for battery and drunk in public.

14. At about 1:21 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted on Longden Avenue, West of Sixth Avenue for expired registration. A consensual search of the vehicle revealed a glass methamphetamine pipe. The 50-year-old White male was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia.
