Arcadia Blotter March 13 – March 19

For the period of Sunday, March 13, through Saturday, March 19, the Police Department responded to 908 calls for service of which 155 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, March 13:
Between 5:30 p.m. on March 12 and 10:30 a.m. on March 13, two commercial burglaries occurred at 805 West Duarte. Unknown suspect(s) forced open doors to the businesses and stole laptop computers and a cash box.
Around 3:17 p.m., units responded to Claire’s located at Westfield Mall regarding a woman detained for theft. An 18-year-old Asian concealed merchandise on her person and left the store without making payment. During the investigation, additional stolen property from Bath and Body Works, Cotton On, Forever 21, Wet Seal, and Sephora were recovered. A private person’s arrest was made, and the suspect was taken into custody for commercial burglary and receiving stolen property.
Monday, March 14:
Around 3:44 p.m., a commercial burglary was reported in the 700 block of Singing Wood. Unknown suspect(s) broke into a residential construction site, between 5:00 p.m. on February 16 and 7:00 a.m. on February 17, and stole bathroom fixtures totaling over $6,200.
Residential burglaries occurred between 10:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the 100 block of West Floral and 1100 block of Greenfield. Unknown suspect(s) broke into the homes, ransacked rooms, and stole cash, jewelry, and Rolex watches. The losses at both locations were over $20,000.
Tuesday, March 15:
Officers were dispatched to the 00 block of Diamond around 10:40 a.m. in reference to an attempted suicide. A distraught 16-year-old female slashed her wrist several times with a knife, causing minor injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
A security guard witnessed an auto burglary around 11:43 p.m. at the CVS parking lot, 1401 South Baldwin. A male Hispanic, 18-25 years of age, smashed a car window and stole a designer purse and its contents. The suspect was seen fleeing in a gold Jeep Cherokee driven by another suspect. The total reported loss was about $1,900.
Wednesday, March 16:
Around 5:10 p.m., loss prevention personnel from the H&M store located at Westfield Mall advised that they had detained three African-American suspects for theft. They worked in concert to remove security tags and to conceal merchandise in their purse/backpack. Stolen property from Cotton On, Forever 21, and Old Navy were also recovered. Private persons’ arrests were made, and an 18-year-old female, 15-year-old female, and a 17-year-old male were taken into custody for commercial burglary and conspiracy to commit crime.
Units responded to the 500 block of Sharon around 7:38 p.m. regarding a theft that occurred at Pavilions between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. An unknown suspect took the victim’s wallet from her purse while she was shopping. The suspect then made over $20,000 in unauthorized purchases at Westfield Mall, and a sales associate from one of the stores described the suspect as a female Hispanic.
Thursday, March 17:
Between 9:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., a residential burglary occurred in the 1700 block of Oakwood. Unknown suspect(s) entered the house by smashing a window. The suspect(s) then ransacked rooms and stole cash, jewelry, and designer watches for a reported loss of over $100,000.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted at Holly and Lemon for an equipment violation. A record check revealed that the driver was on parole for a weapon’s violation and he also had a parolee-at-large warrant for his arrest. A 25-year-old male Hispanic was arrested and during the booking process, a baggie of methamphetamine was found in his pocket.
Friday, March 18:
Between 12:46 a.m. and 1:57 a.m., four individuals were arrested for driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. A 22-year-old female Caucasian was arrested at Live Oak and Louise; a 28-year-old male Caucasian was arrested at First and Haven; a 24-year-old male Hispanic was arrested at First and Huntington; a 21-year-old female Caucasian was arrested at Huntington and La Cadena.
Units responded to Highland Oaks Elementary School, 10 Virginia, around 3:13 p.m. in reference to a theft. A teacher left her purse in an unlocked classroom and when she returned she discovered that her wallet was missing. When she was cancelling her credit cards, she was informed that an unauthorized $75 purchase was made at the Walmart store in Monrovia. The victim later learned that an unidentified male African-American was seen walking around the school during the time of the incident.
Saturday, March 19:
Around 6:49 p.m., an automated license plate reader alerted officers to a vehicle that had a warrant attached to it. A traffic stop was conducted at Peck and Randolph and a 42-year-old male Hispanic was taken into custody for outstanding warrants totaling over $61,000.
Between 7:00 p.m. and 7:20 p.m., an auto burglary occurred at 251 North Santa Anita. Unknown suspect(s) smashed a car window and stole a cell phone, iPod, and wallet.
