Arcadia Blotter April 10 – April 16

For the period of Sunday, April 10, through Saturday, April 16, the Police Department responded to 894 calls for service of which 112 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, April 10:
At about 6:40 p.m., officers and paramedics responded to an injury traffic collision in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. The investigation revealed that two 16-year-old females (one Asian and one of unknown race) were crossing Duarte Road on foot when they were struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Duarte Road. The Asian female died as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision, while the other female was transported and treated at Huntington Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle was a 19-year-old, Asian male.
Around 4:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to Arcadia Methodist Hospital in regards to a cold battery report. The victim, a 20-year-old Hispanic female, stated that on Saturday, April 9th at approximately 2:00 p.m., she was walking home from the mall westbound on Huntington Drive when she was assaulted by four unknown Hispanic females in their early 20’s.
Monday, April 11:
Shortly after 7:30 a.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Duarte Road in reference to a deceased person. The subject was an 82-year-old White male who had apparently passed away in his sleep from natural causes.
Shortly after 10:00 p.m., units responded to Phoenix Chinese Cuisine, 1108 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to an unknown disturbance inside. Upon arrival, officers were advised that an intoxicated White male in his 30’s had just left after yelling and harassing customers inside the location. Officers located the subject in front of 1020 South Baldwin Avenue. While being questioned, a check in the records system revealed he had an outstanding warrant and was then placed under arrest for both the warrant and for being drunk in public.
Tuesday, April 12:
About 2:00 a.m., units responded to a 911 call received by Sierra Madre PD regarding an auto burglary in progress. The location was the 1400 block of Caballero Road, which is in Arcadia’s jurisdiction. The reporting party advised Dispatch that he had seen two male subjects break into a vehicle in front of his home and then flee in a white or silver pickup truck. While conducting an area search for the vehicle, the responding officer observed a white pickup truck, occupied by two males, turn abruptly from northbound to southbound Santa Anita at Orange Grove, with a Sierra Madre police car behind it. A traffic stop was conducted. The investigation revealed stolen property and tools commonly used in the commission of a burglary. Both 19-year-old Hispanic men were arrested for auto burglary and possession of burglary tools.
Just before 7:00 p.m., officers responded to the Arcadia Police station lobby in regards to a missing person report. The missing person was a 78-year-old Hispanic male with dementia who had just moved to Arcadia. A critical missing person’s alert was disseminated via BOLOs (Be On The Look Out), Medic Alert Center and Nixel. At approximately 10:00 p.m. the man arrived in good health at a family member’s residence in Burbank.
Wednesday, April 13:
Between 2:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., an auto burglary occurred in the 500 block of Vaquero Road. Unknown suspect(s) shattered the right front passenger window and stole the vehicle’s DMV registration certificate and an auto insurance card.
Shortly before 11:00 a.m., units were dispatched to the Westfield Shopping Center, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to a report by mall security of a suspicious male walking through several jewelry stores. He resembled a suspect who had stolen jewelry from the Ben Bridge jewelry store in the Westfield Topanga mall. The subject was questioned by officers and a records check revealed an outstanding misdemeanor burglary warrant. The 32-year-old Hispanic male was placed under arrest for the warrant.
Thursday, April 14:
Around 12:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to Rancho High School, 150 South Third Avenue, in regard to a student with marijuana on the property. An investigation revealed that a 17-year-old Hispanic male handed a piece of folded paper to another student, a 13-year-old Hispanic male, who was on his way to the bathroom. The folded paper contained marijuana. The 17-year-old suspect immediately left the classroom when the marijuana was discovered and fled on foot westbound. An area and residence check were conducted, but the suspect was not located. A follow-up investigation is being conducted.
Between 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., a residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of West Santa Anita Terrace. Unknown suspect(s) entered the home through an open window, ransacked the house and stole jewelry, cash and a wallet from the master bedroom for a reported loss of about $34,000.
Friday, April 15:
Shortly after midnight, an Asian female victim arrived at home in the 1100 block of South Third Avenue. She was walking to her door with her 2-year-old son when she was accosted by a Black male, in his early to mid 20’s. The suspect demanded her purse and a laptop that she was carrying. The victim did not immediately comply and the suspect brandished a dark “handgun,” discharging it at the victim. The victim was struck in the cheek and the suspect grabbed the purse and computer, running off to an awaiting vehicle. It appears that the weapon was a BB or pellet gun. The child was not harmed.
About 11:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to Walgreens, 253 East Foothill Blvd., in response to a report of a female down. Upon arrival, officers contacted the 50-year-old, White female who was lying on the ground and smelled strongly of alcohol. She had a bump on the left side of her forehead from a possible fall. A check in the records system revealed an outstanding DUI warrant. The female subject was placed under arrest for the warrant and for being drunk in public.
Saturday, April 16:
About 9:00 a.m., a traffic stop was made at Mayflower and Jeffries for failure to stop for a posted stop sign. A records check of the 35-year-old Hispanic male revealed two felony and one misdemeanor warrants totaling $55,000 in bail. The man was placed under arrest for the warrants.
Shortly after 8:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Holly Avenue and Norman Avenue regarding three suspicious Hispanic male juveniles who were looking into vehicles. The officers located all three juveniles, one age 15 and the other two age 17. The juveniles were not charged and the parents were contacted to pick up their children. Upon the arrival of one of the children’s guardians, a check of the vehicle license revealed that the registered owner was listed as a missing person out of Pasadena on 3-26-11. The subject was in good health and had left his uncle’s home after an argument and was staying with his girlfriend. The 19-year-old White male was taken out of the missing person’s database.
