Our First Page Three Girl

Beacon Media News in the grand tradition of British tabloids is introducing its very first Page Three Girl. As is usual our “girl” is bearly covered, but still “suitable” for family viewing. Please turn the page for your first glimpse of our first homage to this British tradition. We just hope that The Sun ( London) will not try to find their own 54G girlie.
Delilah- The Vamp who is Sam-son’s Undoing.
Bear Page 3

By Susan Motander
In the Biblical story we all learned as children, Delilah undid Samson’s strength by cutting his hair. This Delightful Delilah has enough going for her that she can easily be the undoing of all seven Samsons she will meet in Library Park. She is one eight huge fiberglass bears created to help celebrate Monrovia’s 125th birthday.
She is definitely an Ursa Major as the professional fitters at Creative Woman (truly the Wizard of Bras) have estimated that if they had to fit her with a corset, she would wear a 54 G. If that doesn’t make the rest of us feel petite, nothing will. But for her big day, the luscious lady will be sporting a licentious lavender bikini, crimson painted nails, and (what lady would be caught without) her daytime pearls. Creative Woman sponsored this creation and they showed they are truly wizards with the magic they worked on this, the ultimate in ursine beauty.
The bearly clad lady bear will be joined by her seven Samson consorts. Three others were also sponsored by local businesses. Athens is providing an Ecofriendly Bear who is promoting the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (frankly living in Bear County, I think they missed the boat in not revealing Samson’s true love: raiding trashcans). Dr. Demotor’s Animal Hospital and Norma Haley are supplying a bear entitled “Night and Day in Monrovia” a special feature of which is a depiction of the Monrovia Old Town Trolley on the Bear’s “Caboose.” Mt. Sierra College has “Eddie” the Education Bear who will appear in the Monrovia Day Parade with his own hot tub.
The Friends of the Monrovia Public Library are supplying another of the bears. Their bear is “Bearlovian Paradise,” an depiction of all things in nature. The City of Monrovia’s Art in Public Places provied the other three bears. Rick Kess, who has a day job at Disney created a “Tourist Bear” complete with Hawaiian shirt and straw hat. Also from the Monrovia’s Fine Arts group comes an Artist Bear. This Beartnick crated by Rachel Quimayousia has a beret and a goatee. The last city sponsored bear was created by students from Monrovia High School and the students in Mrs. Parker’s Art class. They are providing the city with a William Newton Monroe Bear in honor of one of the city’s founders and its namesake.
Clearly they are no match for the curvaceous creation from those very creative Wizards. She will vamp the Samsons.
The original Samson was the old bear, who in the 1990s frequented Norumbega Drive and famously languished in Gary Potter’s hot tub (who could blame him – he had bursitis). The video of the old California black bear enjoying a true Southern California tradition may have been what prompted then Governor Pete Wilson (in the only time he did so) to commute the bear’s death penalty sentence. Samson went on to live the life of Riley in the Orange County Zoo in Irvine. He even had his own waterfall in his compound and Calvo Avocados delivered weekly, courtesy of that company.
