Laugh, learn, and be inspired by Dr. Elliot Engel as he returns for his 18th season with the San Marino Celebrity Series. This humorous and original presentation will be held in Arcadia on March 20, 2011, at 4 p.m.
The dynamic and fascinating Dr. Engel will focus on the American author L Frank Baum and his bestselling children’s story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Popular English professor Engel taught at the University of North Carolina, Duke University, and NC State. While earning his M.A. and Ph.D. at UCLA, he won the university’s Outstanding Teacher Award. Recently he was inducted into The Royal Society of Arts in England. This was a result of Dr. Engel’s 30 years of academic work and service promoting Charles Dickens.
Dr. Engel’s ten books have been published in England, Japan, and the United States. He has lectured in every state and on every continent, even Antarctica. His mini lecture series on Charles Dickens ran on PBS throughout the country.
Reviewers have described Dr. Elliot Engel by saying, “His witty, engaging speaking style imparts hard, factual information while leaving his audience virtually spellbound punctuated by periods of laughter and flashes of insight.”
The Celebrity Series is the primary fundraising activity of the San Marino Guild of the
Huntington Hospital. This year funds will be used to purchase seven glider rocking chairs for the PICU. Also, profits will be used to underwrite the creation of a Virtual Maternity Tour at the hospital. Guild members have been directing Maternity Tours at the Huntington for over 50 years.
Next month on April 17, the 2011 Celebrity Series will conclude with “Magic Moments Tribute to the Drifters.”
This program will be held at the Embassy Suites, 211 E. Huntington Drive, Arcadia. Tickets are $30 each. For information and tickets, call 626-441-1465 or 626-793-1333 or email the Guild at sanmarinocelebrityseries@gmail.com.
