On Thursday last, detectives released the business to the property owner, George Attar, after completing their on-site investigation of the gas station at 50 S. Baldwin Ave.
As the investigation into the EVG Quality Gas fraud investigation continues , no arrests have been made. However, the number of victims continues to steadily increase.
Chase Bank is one of the many banks affected and has asked many of its local customers to suspend their credit/debt cards and get a new card as a result of use at the location on 50 s Baldwin.
One member of Beacon Media who banks with Chase was told by their fraud dept. that several numbers in the area have been “compromised” as a result of the EVG scam.
The losses now exceed $140,000 with the number expected to grow as officials continue to ask people who have been fraudulently charged to report it to the Sierra Madre Police Department.
Police have not named any suspects and would only identify the previous business owner, Evgeny Yakimenko, and two associates as “people of interest.” Police Chief Marilyn Diaz said they are following all leads, with the help of the U.S. Secret Service and F.B.I.
