Mike Daleo – Popular Arcadia Police Officer – Crime Analyst – 1942 -2010
Arcadia Police Officer and Crime Analyst Mike Daleo 1942 – 2010
Reserve Arcadia Police Officer and Crime Analyst Mike Daleo passed away last Saturday after a very short battle with cancer. Mike was 67 years old and has been with the Arcadia Police Department as a Reserve officer since 1976. After retiring from a long and successful career at Pac Bell in 1994, Mike was hired by the Department as a Crime Analyst, establishing the Crime Analysis Unit (CAU). Mike was not only well respected and liked by co-workers but was highly respected and his services sought after by other police agencies throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
Some of the fondest memories that Arcadia Police have of Mike are on the golf course and in the bowling alley. Mike never missed a chance to play in a charity tournament or a round of golf with his partners from the Department. According to the APD, you always wanted Mike on your foursome because his drives were straight and always on the fairway.
Arcadia Police Chief Bob Anderson said – “Mike Daleo was one of the rare people who actually transforms an organization. Mike did so much, so fast, to modernize our crime analysis efforts that the U.S. Department of Justice recognized Arcadia PD as having one of the top 8 units in the country. Much more, however, was how Mike touched the lives of those around him. He cared for everybody and everybody cared for him. Mike was my friend for 34 years and our hearts are heavy at Arcadia PD without Mike’s presence. We are much better because Mike Daleo was a part of our lives.”
Born October 9, 1942. Mike loved his 1956 Chevy Bel Aire that he restored and which earned him some trophies at local car shows. He enjoyed his time with classic car buddies and golf buddies.
Mike was Arcadia Police Department Employee of the Year for 1997 and 1999.
He was on the PD’s historical committee – developing lobby displays depicting the history of the Arcadia Police Department. He developed the Department’s first web site.
Mike liked to say that one should “do the right thing for the right reason”
He was a supportive and nurturing father and best friend to his wife Marilyn – enjoying short road trips, quiet times on the patio, reading books or going out for an ice cream. Devoted to his family, this February the entire family vacationed together on the Kona Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii. He and his wife Marilyn, son Tim and daughter-in-law Tiffany were members of the Arcadia School District’s bowling league and got a kick out of being the Daleo “Bowleos”
Mike is survived by his loving family: wife Marilyn, their son Tim and daughter-in-law Tiffany, daughter Jennifer and husband TJ Forman, step-grandchildren Lindy and Colton, and grandson Nolan Michael.
