MTA Breaks Ceremonial Ground in Arcadia for Foothill Extension

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority broke ground Saturday on a $690 million, 11.3 mile extension of the Gold Line from Pasadena through Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte, Irwindale and Azusa. The time line is scheduled now for 2013…a year earlier than originally reported.
Approximately 600 very enthusiastic people attended the morning event at Newcastle Park in Arcadia which included numerous specches and activities for the kids.

Much of the politicians and developers’ enthusiasm centers around so-called “Transit-Oriented Developments” — an idea that local get a new injection of life when they offer public transportation, housing, and retail in the same space.

Monrovia’s proposed Station Square project will be next to thesite of its Gold Line station, just south of the 210 Freeway. Monrovia has invested $30 million into the project called station square .
