Democrat Jerry Brown, 72, has officially thrown his hat into California governor’s race .
The California state attorney general, who served two terms as governor declared his candidacy on his Web site. The announcement has been expected for months, while Brown was quietly raising millions of dollars.
After the June primary, Brown will face of one of two wealthy Republicans in the general election: former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, a billionaire, or state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, who is also a mulit-millionaire.
Brown says only someone with political tenure such as his has the experience to govern California during this unprecedented crisis.
