Monrovia City Council Member Joe Garcia has been appointed to an executive post on the National League of Cities’ (NLC) 2010 First Tier Suburbs Council Steering Committee.
The Council addresses challenges faced by communities located outside of central cities and inside the ring of developing suburbs and rural areas. The Council explores effective local solutions, supports research, provides guidance and recommendations to city officials, and allows city officials to network with each other.
The Steering Committee, on which Garcia will serve as a Vice Chair, provides leadership on issues including neighborhood and commercial revitalization, regional cooperation, housing and transportation.
“The challenges facing rural and suburban cities within the range of metropolitan regions are equally as complex and diverse as their urban counterparts,” he said. “I look forward to working with the committee in developing ideas that create collaborative and regional solutions for all cities.”
