Local Seniors on the Move, from Desert to the Sea
On Tuesday, November 17, the Arcadia Travelers sponsored a day excursion to Palm Springs. The 45 seniors from Arcadia and surrounding cities were treated to a performance of the Palm Springs Follies, “a world famous, Broadway caliber celebration of the music, dance, and comedy of the 40s, 50s, and 60s with a cast old enough to have lived it!”. The dancers range in age from 56 to 86.
Three days later, the club transported 55 people to the Santa Monica Pier for a performance of Cirque de Soleil’s Kooza. The group was treated to a breath-taking performance, and were given some of the best seats in the house (tent).
Arcadia Travelers is a volunteer run club of over 600 members affiliated with the Recreation department of the City of Arcadia. The club sponsors four excursions each month ranging from day trips to museums (recent excursions to Nethercutt collection and to the flight museum at LAX), attractions (recently we went to an Ostrich Farm), and performances (Disney Concert Hall, Glendale Center Theater) to multi-day trips to places like Death Valley and Laughlin Nevada.
Meetings are held on the fourth Friday of each month (third Friday in November and December) at the Arcadia Community Center. Coffee and refreshments at 9:30 A.M. with meeting and presentation starting at 10:00. The program for November is a presentation “Get Your Kicks on Route 66″. In December, the meeting attendees will be entertained in a holiday program by the El Monte High School singers.
